Data reveals the number of men who are assaulted by their wives in Lagos

Fifty-five men, who are victims of domestic violence cried out to Lagos State Government this year to save them from their partners, said the state Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Adeniji Kazeem, on Tuesday.

Kazeem, who is the chairman, Domestic and Sexual Violence Response Team, DSVRT, disclosed this at media briefing on the activities of the group.

He said unlike in the past, men in abusive relationships and are assaulted by their partners(file image) now have the courage to come forward to lodge complaints with the team, adding that this year, fifty five of such men reported to the Lagos State Government how their wives battered them in the last eight years.

The Commissioner revealed that the number of men reporting domestic violence against their wives from January 2017 till date largely surpassed that of last year which he said was 14.

According to him, “There is a growing confidence urging people to speak out more, there is an astronomical increase in reporting of cases in the media. Lagos has indeed revolutionise the way sexual and gender based violence is being tackled in Nigeria with all the pioneering initiatives of Governor Ambode.”
