The Divisional Police Officer (DPO) in charge of Ushafa division in Bwari Area Council of the FCT has been redeployed to the command headquarters in Abuja.
The unnamed DPO’s redeployment is coming on the heels of a video where he slapped a resident.
The clip which went viral sparked public outrage.
Announcing the officer’s deployment to newsmen, the Commissioner of Police in FCT, Miller G. Dantawaye, said the decision followed the circulation of a video on X (formerly Twitter) depicting the DPO slapping a young man on Wednesday, October 22, 2025.
Dantawaye expressed displeasure over the DPO’s action and condemned the officer’s behaviour, which he said falls short of the high standards of discipline, civility, and professionalism expected of police officers.
He emphasized that such behaviour is unacceptable and will not be tolerated under his leadership as police commissioner in the FCT.
“Consequently, the DPO involved in such action has been redeployed back to the state police command headquarters with immediate effect, while the situation is currently under investigation,” he said.
The police commissioner reminded all the DPOs and their subordinates that they must remain professional, courteous, and law-abiding in the discharge of their duties.
He also warned that any act of misconduct or abuse of power by any officer will attract severe sanctions.
CP Dantawaye also called on members of the public to remain respectful and law-abiding in the course of interactions with police officers, saying mutual respect and cooperation are essential for effective community policing and public safety.
