HOUSEWIFE HIRES ASSASSINS TO KILL HUSBAND

A housewife, who allegedly masterminded the gruesome murder of her husband in Port Harcourt, is now telling the Rivers State Police Command all she knows about the crime.

The woman, whose identity could not be ascertained as at press time, was said to have plotted the assassination of her husband (name withheld) on Wednesday night, at their house in Mgbeosimiri, in Agip area of Rumuolumeni.

The deceased, who was a prominent businessman and contractor with Nigerian Agip Oil Company, was killed at his country home, Mgbeoshimiri, Rumuolumeni, in Obio/Akpor Local Government Area of the State.

It was gathered that the woman hid the alleged killers in their house before her husband returned from work, having told them that he was “a strong man” whose powers needed to be neutralized before they carried out the operation.

According to a source, when the deceased returned home from work at about 11:30pm, the wife asked him what he wanted to take for dinner and her husband requested for oatmeal.

She was said to have drugged the meal, which weakened the man and paved the way for the assassins to murder him without resistance.

Shortly after the incident, one of the perpetrators was arrested and handed over to the police by members of a vigilance group, who noticed bloodstains on his clothes.

The woman, who later confessed to the crime, was said to have fainted at a police station, when she sighted one of the suspects in the murder. She was said to have confessed to conspiracy to kill her husband. According to her confession to the police, she decided to eliminate her husband when she discovered that he was making plans to marry a woman who was already pregnant for him.

When the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Mr. Benjamin Ugwuegbulam, a Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP), was contacted, he told the reporter to give him some time to confirm from the Divisional Police Officer in charge of the area. Subsequent efforts made by our reporter to reach him on phone proved abortive.

TWO OUT OF FIVE PEOPLE IN BENUE ARE HIV-POSITIVE-GOVT

THE Benue State government has disclosed that over one million out of the 4.5 million population in the state have been infected with the human immunodeficiency virus (HIV).

This was made known at the training of media professional on HIV/AIDS held at the Conference Hall, Ministry of Information, Markurdi, Benue State, on Thursday.

The Executive Secretary, Benue State Action on Control of AIDS (BESACA), Mrs. Grace Wende, in a paper entitled “Basic facts on HIV/AIDS,” said that about 400,000 children living with the virus have been placed on antiretroviral drugs (ARV), adding that 708,640 adults are living with the disease.

Based on the statistics, about two out of five people in the state are carriers of the disease, with women having it more than men.

According to Mrs. Wende, the children carriers of the disease, who have the highest infection rate, were born with the disease. These children, according to her, got the disease from mothers who failed to go for ante-natal care at government-owned hospitals where their status could have been detected earlier.

“In Benue State, the number of adults infected with HIV/AIDS was 708,640, out of which 21,259 were new infections in 2011. In the same year, 17,139 women were found positive. The number of children requiring ARV was 398, 888,” she said.

Mrs. Wende cited the attitude of the people of the state to unprotected sex and the rising number of youths becoming homosexuals as factors responsible for the rise in the scourge.

Speaking further, Mrs. Wende noted that many men who flock around ladies and engage in unprotected sex also transmit the virus to their unsuspecting wives.

At the moment, according to her, the state has 40 treatment centres where the free antiretroviral drugs are provided to those living with the virus, adding that the state has enough drugs in stock till 2015.

The Commissioner for Information, Mr. Comrad Wegba, regretted that despite the huge amount of funds the state had committed into the fight against the scourge, the disease was still spreading.

He blamed the practice of unprotected sex and the deliberate spreading of the disease by carriers as the major sources of the spread of the disease in the state.

“The former governor of the state, Chief George Akume, visited Angola to see the havoc the disease wreaked on the land and ways to reduce the scourge. Unfortunately, while the prevalence of the disease has reduced in other parts of the country, Benue is getting worse by the day and this is as a result of our attitude to unprotected sex as well as deliberate move by the carriers to spread the disease,” Wegba said.

Together with Mrs. Wende, the commissioner called for behavioural change among the people, urging them to stick to a partner and use condom.

EBONYI DEP SPEAKER IMPEACHED

The Ebonyi State House of Assembly Deputy Speaker, Valentine Okike-Uzor, was yesterday impeached by the House for misconduct and improper dressing.

It was reported that the deputy speaker was impeached and suspended for alleged misconduct, causing disaffection among members, gossip and insubordination and improper dressing that had portrayed the House in bad light. Usulor, representing Ezza South State Constituency, moved the motion for impeachment accusing the deputy speaker, Okike-Uzor.

He also alleged that the the deputy speaker was in the habit of moving from one office to another reporting leadership of the House, causing disaffection and plotting to impeach the leadership of the House. His motion was seconded by Frank Onwe and immediately, Blaise Orji representing Afikpo North was voted in to succeed Okike-Uzor as the deputy speaker.

The House, since its inauguration in 2011, has been enmeshed in series of impeachments and suspensions of its members since the seventh session where the Speaker, Ikechukwu Nwankwo, was impeached and given a long suspension and was only recently recalled.

I didn’t force my children into acting-Oga Bello

Adebayo Aremu Salami popularly known as Oga Bello has said that he did not force his children into acting. Salami whose children, Femi, Tope, Sadiq, and Rilwan are into acting, producing and directing said he went into the profession due to passion.

“Since my children have the kind of passion I had about 49 years ago when I started acting at age 12, I cannot stop them, mind you they graduated from the university before coming into theatre. For example, Femi is a lawyer, producer and actor. Tope is a Computer Scientist, actress, producer and marketer. Sadiq is a Geologist, actor, producer and director, while Rilwan who also studied Computer Science is an editor and producer.”

Oga Bello, who started with the group, Young Stars Concert Party and later joined the late Ojo Ladipo Group which later transformed into Awada Keri Keri Group after Ladipo’s death, said when he started acting his parents and friends did not support him.

“Looking back today, I thank God for my life and that of my children especially those in my profession,” he says.

Speaking on the working relationship between him and his children, Oga Bello said it is strictly business. Hear him: “Though, they can waive some things for me as I will always do for them, but when it comes to business, it is strictly business.” The versatile actor said that he is currently working on a film entitled, Alo nlo Abo nbo.

US CONDEMNS PARDON FOR ALAMIEYESEGHA, OTHERS

Controversy has continued to trail Wednesday’s state pardon granted the former Governor of Bayelsa State, Chief Diepreye Solomon Peter Alamieyeseigha and eight others with the United States of America yesterday joining the league of those opposed to the Federal Government’s action.

President Goodluck Jonathan who approved Alamieyeseigha’s pardon served as his deputy in office.

The US Embassy in Nigeria made the country’s position on Alamiesiegha’s pardon known on Twitter in Lagos yesterday, describing it as a setback to the fight against graft in the country.

“We see this as a setback in the fight against corruption,” Embassy spokeswoman Deb MacLean said.

In a press release Lagos based lawyer Bamidele Aturu described the pardon granted the former Bayelsa governor as an official jailbreak, adding that the civil society groups would do all in its power to show the whole world that those who claim to govern Nigerians are nothing but common crooks who deserve to be in jail..

REPS TO INVESTIGATE N100 ATM MONTHLY MAINTENANCE CHARGE

The House of Representatives has mandated its Committee on Banking and Currency to investigate the structure and composition of approved bank charges on all accounts in Nigeria. The resolution followed a motion by Rep. Babatunde Kazeem (ACN-Lagos), which was adopted when put to vote by the Speaker, Rep. Aminu Tambuwal.

The motion is entitled: “Urgent Need to stop Nigerian Banks from Introducing N100 Monthly Maintenance Fee.” Kazeem said that following the scrapping of N100 withdrawal charges on Automated Teller Machines (ATM) by the Banker’s Committee, some banks were planning to introduce monthly maintenance fee on ATM cards.

According to the lawmaker, the First Bank of Nigeria has informed its customers that they will be paying a monthly maintenance fee on their cards with effect from March 2013. He also said that the banker’s committee, during a meeting in November 2012, had scrapped the N100 interbank charges on the use of ATM cards.

The legislator further said that the Governor of Central Bank of Nigeria had said that customers would no longer pay N100 on withdrawals on ATM whenever customers used banks other than theirs.

He had said that this was to take effect from Dec. 17, 2012. Kazeem expressed concern that if this maintenance fee was introduced, it would cause untold hardship on bank customers.

Speaking in support of the motion, Rep. Abiodun Awoleye (ACN-Oyo) said the N100 charge for the use of ATM under the guise of maintenance charge by some banks was an exploitation of Nigerians.

He said that the charge was also against the CBN’s cashless policy. He expressed concern that if the maintenance fee was allowed, the banks would continue to introduce other charges.

In his contribution in support of the motion, Rep. Aminu Suleiman (PDP-Kano) said that it was important that the relevant committee of the house should look into the matter. Rep. Hassan Saleh (PDP-Benue) urged committee on banking and currency to ensure that “the right thing is done”. This, he said, was to guard against innocent customers being charged arbitrarily.

President Jonathan starts newspaper business

President Goodluck Jonathan will soon join the league of top politicians who are also newspaper publishers as he is about to unveil his own newspaper.

The President who is following in the footsteps of Action Congress of Nigeria, ACN’s leader Bola Ahmed Tinubu who is the publisher of The Nation, former governor of Abia State, Kalu Orji who owns The Sun, Ex-Vice-President Alhaji Abubakar Atiku who is the publisher of Peoples Daily, and owner of Daily Independent former Delta State governor James Ibori among others, entered the fray through the Petroleum Minister Diezani Alison Madueke.

The Petroleum Minster herself is in the background but a group with the name ‘Friends of Diezani’ is fronting for her.  The newspaper’s office is tucked away in posh part of Ikeja, Oduduwa GRA, and recruitment has reached fever pitch.  Former This Day Newspaper’s Art Director Oby Azuru is the Managing Director and several other editorial and non-editorial staff are already shortlisted.

However one serious issue that has slow down its operation is the issue of the name the paper would bear. President Jonathan and the management team have settled for the name Nigeria Today, but the problem is that the name has already been registered with Corporate Affairs Commission by another person who is asking for compensation in the form of N100million from the President before he let go of the name.

Fraud rocks MTN Yellow Estate

Shelter is in the league of food and clothing, a basic human need. So, when the co-operative society of telecommunication giant, MTN Employees Multipurpose Co-operative Society Limited (MEMCOS) came up with the idea of having an estate for their members in posh part of Lagos State, Lekki, the hearts of about two thousand staff who subscribed to it were warmed.

Their hearts leaped when the developer, Trioteknix Limited and the co-operative’s executives secured an estate development loan from Federal Mortgage Bank of Nigeria (FMBN) to the tune of N1, 582,278,208.00 (One Billion, Five Hundred and Eighty Two Million, Two Hundred and Seventy Eight Thousand, Two Hundred and Eight Naira) for the construction of 284 housing units, which is the phase one of the project.

May 12, 2012 further brought glad tidings as N487, 315,955.00 (Four Hundred and Eighty Seven Million, Three Hundred and Fifteen Thousand, and Nine Hundred and Fifty Five Naira) was disbursed by FMBN to the developer and the co-operative’s EXCO as the first tranche of the over One Billion Naira loan on that day.

However, things began to go wrong in September last year when teams of project assessors from the FMBN visited the project site and were surprised by the level of works on the ground, and kicked out seriously.

The Federal Mortgage Bank’s monitoring report, a copy, which was sent to orijoreporter revealed that as at September 2012 when the agency’s staff went to the construction site in Lekki the value of works done was put at N13,341,960.00 ( Thirteen Million, Three Hundred and Forty-One Thousand, Nine Hundred and Sixty Naira.

A far cry from about N500 million they first offered the contractor and EXCO, FMBN expressed their disapproval and threatened that they won’t pay them furthermore until further jobs that measure against the money they gave them were done.

Though FMBN’s door was closed to the contractor, Trioteknix Limited and the EXCO, Enterprise Bank later opened its own door, when it gave N900 million loan for the estate construction at 22 percent interest rate to them.

Investigation revealed that it was under the first EXCO of MTN Employees Multipurpose Co-operative Society Limited that the idea of the estate project was moved but its tenure lapsed before actions were taken.

However, the actions of its successor were so fraught with problems that the whole project was turning into a Ponzi scheme and was later abandoned. Tempers flared over the matter to the point that the subscribers pressured the EXCO to return their own equity participations which run into several millions of naira.

The pressure yielded fruits when the EXCO President Mrs. Fehintola Mustapha emailed all the subscribers of the estate, and in the letter claimed that the reason the EXCO and the contractor backed out from the FMBN’s loan deal was that they paid 10% of the total loan amount, among other cash gifts as Public Relations to officials of FMBN. This she said “made the loan much more expensive than commercial bank loans.”

It was not music to most of the subscribers’ ears including some EXCO. The financial secretary of the association, Zephaniah Isie in protest of the Enterprise Bank’s loan, which did not get the EXCO’s approval turned in his resignation letter. So also the Social Secretary, Vivian Igheghe.

Zephaniah Isie and Mrs. Igheghe’s other excuse was that the Enterprise Bank’s 22% interest rate on the N900m was too much on the high side, and that of the FMBN was supposed to be offered between 6 percent and 10 percent.

In Mrs. Ighehe’s resignation letter which she sent to the EXCO members through email she accused the President of forming a clique and acting undemocratically.

Sources told orijoreporter that a group, named Concerned Subscribers of Yellow Estate have petitioned the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to investigate the activities of the EXCO and the developer.

The group accused the developer, Trioteknix Limited, and the CEO of the company, Mr. Oyedeji Afolabi, the President of the EXCO, Mrs. Mustapha and some other members of financial misappropriation, and outright stealing.

The petition reads in part “It is obvious that the first loan of N487m has been fraudulently converted, misappropriated and stolen by the developer, the president, and some EXCO members.

“And so the need for a thorough investigation of this transaction, so as to expose the truth, and to protect the banking sector, especially the FMBN and the innocent and hepless subscribers of the Yellow Estate Project who are now at risk of losing their investments.”

When our correspondent spoke to the anti-graft agency’s spokesman Wilson Uwujaren he confirmed the petition adding that “EFCC has started investigation.”

Aviation Minister in money laundering scandal, travels to Dubai with 12 boxes loaded with money

Just as millions of ordinary Nigerians who bore the brunt of misgovernment were battling third conditions, Aviation Minister Princess Stella Oduah on Wednesday night sneaked out of the country with loads and loads of money to Dubai, orijoreporters report.

She attempted to cover her tracks by travelling with the Emirate flight that left the shore of this country at around 10.00pm for Dubai. Under the cover of the night, the aviation minister arrived Lagos from Abuja, and instead of going through the arrival hall to the international wing of the MurtalaMohammedAirport, she was driven right from the tarmac to connect the Dubai-bound flight.

Impeccable sources said that Stella Oduah also beat security checks at the airport. While her big boxes were being loaded onto the plane by her aides she kept herself aloof from them. And for two hours, passengers who were already on board were kept waiting.

It was further gathered that the boxes were filled with hard currency.

I dated Wasiu Alabi Pusuma’s mother when he was a toddler- Charles Olumo Agbako

Veteran actor Charles Olumo popularly called Agbako will be 86 years old this year. The octogenarian, who has put in over 60 years in acting, spoke with Biola Osundiya at a movie location in this interview with Orijoreporters. Excerpt.

Sir, it has been a long while you featured in movies?

Yes, you know the body is not as strong as it used to be. So, I am not stressing myself as I used to do before. If not of the love I have for acting, you would not see me here. The producer is a daughter, so I have to honour her call. I wonder how you pressmen know I would be here.

Just doing our job, so sir, what has been happening to you?

Well like I told you, have been taking things easy now. Not doing much, just cameo appearances. At 80+ you just must take it easy.

Can you take us down the memory lane, what was it to what it is now?

Well I have mixed feelings about that. You know with nostalgia thought comes perfection, so I am sure you will be expecting me to say it was better in those days. Yes I can say it was better because then, we had people who were into theater not for the commercial value as the first on their priority list, but because of the love they had for acting. This is not so now as people want to come in and make money first before anything. But even at that, I can still say the industry is better now as one can now be theater practitioners alone without supporting it with anything and still be successful in life.

Let’s talk about your career; what do you think you should be known for in Nigerian movie industry?

I can say it with all of my mouth in this industry in Nigeria, I am the first stuntman! You see; in those days, there was nothing like stunt in Nigerian movies. The camera is either manipulated to bring about effect, or it is done at the editing level. We were on set on one movie by the first Nigerian indigenous movie director, Ola Balogun, and in the script I was to jump from a very high building, I vehemently refused, left that place without doing what the script says I should do. The director agreed and I did it. I then decided after that to be available to any stunt a script dictates to me. So, my son I am the first Nigerian stuntman.

That brings me to the very important question, I know you don’t like to talk about it but because you called me your son, you must honour me by answering it, are you Wasiu Alabi Pasuma’s father?

I have stopped answering that question a long time ago but I will indulge you. See I am not Alabi Pasuma’s father. I dated his mother when she was with Baba Sala. Then she used to bring Alabi to locations, he was a toddler then. So if I was dating the mom, then I think I am qualified to say I am a father to him.

Looking at your contribution to the movie industry, can you say you are fulfilled?

Yes o! I can say that having put over 60 years of my existence to this work, I can say that I have paid my dues.

Any word to aspiring artistes?

I want them to know that it is not a play. Yes, you might be in it to act in a play but it is not a play, it is a job.

Thank you for your time Baba

No problem Omo

Ex-Lagos Commissioner Muiz Banire in Property Mess, Court seals off his multi-billion naira estate

Working as a Commissioner for 12 years in Lagos State, the commercial centre of the most populous black nation was a financial windfall for Dr. Muiz Banire who early in 1999 struggled to become the Secretary to the Local Government (SLG) in Mushin where he hails from but hit dead ends.

His remarkable journey started when he was first appointed as Commissioner for Special Duties, and later Transport by the then Lagos State governor, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu. Dr. Banire was also at a time Commissioner for Environment under the incumbent Lagos Governor Babatunde Raji Fashola.

Now Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN) National Legal Adviser, the former Law lecturer in University of Lagos has made the most of the political offices he occupied at one time or the other. Heavily loaded, Banire made several acquisitions in Nigeria and abroad.

Sources told orijoreporters that one of his acquisitions, a 14 acres of land at Oke-Alo Gbagada in Kosofe Local Government Area of Lagos State recently gone wrong when he was accused of illegal possession, and was dragged before a Lagos High Court by the land owner, a Lagos monarch, the Oloto of Otto Oba Ganiyu Odesanya.

In early 2000 there was controversy over the land between Lagos State Government and Oba Odesanya when the former sought to acquire the large expanse of land, which belongs to the Oloto Chieftaincy Family for the development of a millennium mixed housing scheme at Gbagada, and the Olotos turned to the law court for help.

However, the matter was later resolved out of court and the state government conceded the land to the Olotos. But there was another shock in store for the victors.

Their victory dance was cut short when Banire through one of his companies, Stardust Estate Limited entered the land, and started building a private estate. It was said that the National Legal Adviser of ACN dismissed all the great tact and diplomacy of politics, and allegedly mobilized hundreds of illegal security agents, OPC members and street urchins to the site to scare the Olotos away.

It was also alleged that Banire who is presently on a pilgrimage to Mecca for lesser Hajj (Umrah) connived with a new generation bank (name withheld) to forge a Certificate of Occupancy for the land.

The Olotos adopted the same approach to the land dispute. They went to court like they did against Lagos State Government. And last week the court gave the order to seal off the multi-billion naira estate.

Saraki siblings, Bukola, Gbemi re-ignite feud

gbemi saraki

Immediate past Kwara State governor, Senator Bukola Saraki and his sister, Senator Gbemi Saraki have renewed the long-running feud between them, which came to the open in the wake of 2011 governorship election in Kwara State where Sen. Gbemi’s ambition to become the state governor was thwarted by her brother who backed the incumbent governor of the state, Abdulfatai Ahmed.

The disagreement over political ambitions soured relations between them, and in the aftermath of her defeat at the poll, Sen. Gbemi relocated to United States where she was until her father died on November 14, 2011. Their father, late Dr. Olusola Saraki before his death tried to resolve their differences but to no avail.

It would also be recalled that in one of the last interviews the late strongman of Kwara’s politics granted journalists before his demise, he revealed that their political differences had been settled but what remained was that of their quarrel within the family.

And despite creating the illusion that the family was not torn apart during their father’s burial last month, sources claim the warring pair who are not from the same mother, have both gone back to the trenches. This time around, it is Senator Bukola on one side, and Senator Gbemi, and her mother’s children, Laolu Saraki, and Mrs. Tope Edu (nee Saraki) on the other side.

Though what caused the latest row was very sketchy at the time of going to press, information from sources close to the family revealed that, their late father’s younger brother, Alh. Olatunji Abdullahi Ayinla who lives at Adewale Estate in Ilorin has mediated in the recent dispute in the house of the Sarakis.

The Ilorin Emir, Alh. Ibrahim Sulu- Gambari who was in United States when Dr. Saraki died and flew down to Ilorin on the day of the Fidau Prayer to witness the occasion was recently in Lagos at the deceased’s house in Ikoyi to broker a peace meeting among the warring siblings.

CHIEF OPERATING OFFICER, MOHAMMED JAMEEL LEAVES GLOBACOM OVER MIKE ADENUGA’S BAD MANNERS

The Group Chief Operating Officer of telecommunication giant, Globacom, Mohammed Jameel is a very patient person. But for some reasons, Otunba Mike Adenuga was bent on discovering the limits of his patience. And last year December, Jameel’s patience evaporated as he left Nigeria for his country, India and has refused to return.

His action was apparently due to Globacom owner, Otunba Mike Adenuga’s non-adherence to best practice, which sparked war between them. An interesting example of jungle employer, the Ijebu-born billionaire gives his employees an amazing amount of poo, including those in the management team.

Loud-mouthed, Adenuga has a history of hurling abuse at his employees. It is said that he is also quick at regaling his employees with tales of how he made it early in life when they disagree with him on official matters. “When Otunba’s view on an issue is not shared, he insists that his would be the official position of the company, and he would berate anyone with different views” said inside sources.

A disturbing mantra, Otunba Adenuga has also created an atmosphere of mistrust in Globacom with the accounting method in operation. He is the only one who signs the company’s cheques. Last year when he slumped in his Lagos office at Adeola Odeku in Victoria Island, and was flown abroad for medical attention, many companies that Globacom was indebted to, waited for several days for his return before they got paid.

This crude management, ruptured the ties between Otunba Adenuga and Globacom Group Operating Officer, Mohammed Jameel who had long been swallowing his frustration until last December when he walked out on the job, and left for his country, India. “Jameel did not even resign, he just left like that. The last time something like this happened, we had to wait for his arrival before some jobs were done. But now we are going about our jobs as usual” a Globacom staff who craved anonymity told orijoreporters.

However, long before Jameel’s action, his deputy, Mr. Kenhoul, a Briton was furious at the unfair way Adenuga treats his employees, and had walked out on him and his job, and went back to Britain. He recently returned to Nigeria to set up a communication company.

Lagos Deputy Gov Abandons Family, As Step-Mother Died Of Hunger

It is all past history that Lagos State Deputy Governor Adejoke Orelope-Adefulire started out as a regular hairdresser before she was invited into partisan politics by her father, Chief Orelope, a polygamist and a popular grassroots politician in days of yore in Alimosho, the biggest local government area in LagosState.

And now with so many connections made from the time she was a member of the Lagos State House of Assembly in the ThirdRepublic, Adejoke whose name then, was TAWA would no doubt have plenty to talk about.

At a time she was a Commissioner for Women Affairs & Poverty Alleviation under immediate past Lagos State Governor Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, and at another time, she held the same portfolio during incumbent governor’s first term.

She has been doing well for herself for some time. She has choice properties across Lagos and also has abroad. Her children (one of them Yinka)  from her first marriage to Toyin Kenbi, an ambulance driver with popular Orthopedic Hospital, Igbobi are all doing well in schools.

And like most other politicians Mrs. Orelope-Adefulire made money from underhand deals she pulled off in government. For quite some time, the Lagos deputy governor’s company has been one of the two tailoring firms that are clothing members of Neighborhood Watch, a community security agency, which was established by the Lagos State Government during the time of Senator Bola Ahmed Tinubu as Lagos governor.

Sources told orijoreporters that the initial thrill, which Mrs. Adejoke Orelope-Adefulire’s siblings and her father’s wives had when Lagos State Independent Electoral Commission (LASIEC) declared her as Lagos State Deputy Governor in 2011 has since given way to frustration. They had campaign vigorously for her and Gov. Babatunde Fashola in Alimosho to the point that one of them was shot by gunmen believed to be working for the governorship candidate of a rival party. So their expectation was high.

But contrary to their expectations they were disappointed as there were no jobs for the boys from her. Most of them are jobless and some are working as labourers in construction sites.

Just yesterday, her father’s last wife, popularly called Mama Akeem died of hunger at Ilepo Alhaji area in Alimosho where she lived. She had been very sick and was only taken to hospital after her condition spiraled out of control.

GOV. FASHOLA’S MANY BUSINESS INTERESTS UNCOVERED!

Lagos State Governor, Babatunde Raji Fashola like many others high powered executives in Nigeria is bleeding the citizens of Lagos dry as the lawyer turned politician is engaged in primitive consumption and accumulation of wealth. And this he is doing either by proxy or bald-faced budget manipulation.

Orijoreporter got the inside scoop on the budget proposals for his office and his kitchen cabinet, prepared by the Office of the Chief of Staff over the years, which highlight how Gov. Raji Fashola has been obtaining huge sums by fraud. In the 2010 and 2011 budget proposals, the governor budgeted N350 million and N385 million respectively for recharge cards for his telephone lines, that of his Chief of Staff, and his Special Assistants. Those monies were also meant for the payment of NEPA Bills, and Water Rates.

Inside sources told orijoreporters that not only that the monies were approved, what was eventually allocated at the end of the years, were far above those figures. The case of other items budgeted for were much the same, including medical care for the governor, his personal assistants, staff, and security personnel where N140 million and N154 million were proposed by the office of the Chief of Staff for both years. It is said that a large chunk of such monies end up in the pockets of Gov. Fashola and his cronies.

Another area that the governor has used to feed his addiction is the area of contracts where over 70 percent of LagosState government’s contracts, particularly in the construction sector were awarded to his proxy, one Tunji Olowolafe, a trained medical doctor and once a cab driver in London. Tunji’s company, Duex, which has been fronting for Gov. Fashola has cornered the Lagos State Government’s contract market.

A mutually beneficial relationship, the duo recently acquired A.R.M, an asset management company, and pension administrator. They are equally behind Four Point Sheraton Hotel, which is located at Lekki, opposite former Lagos governor, Sen. Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s hotel.

Gov. Fashola’s performance in his first four-year tenure was quite impressive, however, this time around, he has been helping himself to the money in the treasury. His cronies and relations have also benefited from several contracts he facilitated for them. One of them is one Soji who is married to the governor’s younger sister. It is said that Soji recently acquired a choice property at highbrow Allen Avenue, behind the popular OshopeyPlaza from the money he made from LagosState government.

Also, one of the governor’s cronies recently got the contract to produce the Lagos State brochure for the state’s 45th anniversary, which was held sometime this year, and was paid the sum of N20 million by the state government.
