47 YRS OLD MAN SLEEPS WITH 13 YRS OLD GIRL FOR 2 WEEKS

In what can be described as extreme case of sexual perversion, a man has subjected a 13-year-old girl to a terrible show of his machismo by continuously having sex with her for two weeks.

The girl, Faith (surname withheld) is in primary six in a public school at Ajeromi-Ifelodun Local Government Area of Lagos State.

Investigations revealed that the amorous game must have been going on for long before the two weeks’  “sabbatical” when the immoral act became a daily routine.

It was gathered that the young girl had before now been playing truancy forcing the Head Mistress of her school to alert her parents and she was cautioned. Thereafter she attended school regularly for about two weeks before she again became truant.

Narrating her ordeal, Faith who looks younger than her age said the man she simply identified as Edwin lured her to his shop one day, entertained her with juice and thereafter he started caressing her. And later slept with her.

She added that she was scared and terrified but the man would not leave her and instead caressed her and later laid her on her back, removed her clothes and had sex with her.

After the sexual escapade, she said, the man gave her N100.

The man later cajoled her into coming to his shop during school hours as a result of which she was absent from school for complete two weeks.

She said “He told me that if I tell anybody, I would die. Or he will send people to go and kill me when I am passing by. That was why I was afraid to tell anybody.”

According to her, the man used to have sex with her in his shop and after school hours he would release her to go home telling her to come back the following day. As usual, he always gave her a parting gift of N100.

“He always gave me N100 after having sex with me. He also used to buy food for me when I was with him”, she added.

It was gathered that once the man wanted to commence his diabolical act, he normally bribed a woman who sells orange beside his shop and the woman would leave.

The bubble however burst last week Friday after the school invited the girl’s parents to inquire about what was happening to their daughter as she had not been in school for two weeks running.

It was learnt that her parents were surprised to hear the allegation and they told the Head Mistress (HM) that it could not have been true because she left home every day in school uniform and other materials.

Since the day was Thursday, she told  her parents  the following day being Friday, that they should ensure that the moment she was through with her school preparation and about to leave home they should grab her and bundle her to her office to come and explain herself.

The game worked, as Faith was face-to-face with the school head the following day.

After interrogation in the presence of her parents, the fear of her HM overwhelmed her and she said it all.

She was said to have felt remorseful that she could not hold back anything from what transpired between her and Edwin.

Her father (name withheld) was also downcast on hearing the confession of her daughter.

He lamented that the man wanted to ruin her life praying that he should leave his daughter alone.

When orijoreporter met the man whose name is Edwin (surname withheld) in his shop on Thursday, he admitted knowing the girl but denied ever having sexual intercourse with her.

He also said the only time he gave the girl money was on Friday when he gave her N50.

“I swear God knows I don’t have anything with this girl. If I have anything with her, anything I am looking for in this world I should not get it”, the man who said he was 47 and married with four kids swore.

HEADING FOOTBALL CAN CAUSE BRAIN DAMAGE

A research has now revealed that heading of the ball may increase the risk of brain damage to football players.

The research conducted at the University of Texas, US, revealed that heading a football repeatedly may cause mental impairment or “mild traumatic brain injury of the frontal lobes”.

The researchers however point out that more research is needed to determine whether the changes are long-lasting or temporary. But the findings indicate that increasing amounts of playing time worsen performance.

The study involved a group of 12 teenage female football players and a matched group of non-players. Each undertook a simple computer screen task designed to test subtle levels of mental functioning. Participants had to react to the random appearance of a white square by touching a point on the opposite side of the screen. Performance was measured by timing the speed of the responses.

Before the test, girls who played football were given a practice session during which they headed the ball a number of times. The study showed that the football players were significantly slower at the task than non-players.

However, both groups performed equally well in another task that involved touching the white square where it appeared. This test involved a more instinctive response with less thinking required.

Factoring in the number of hours spent playing football each week showed that more games and practice sessions led to slower responses.

Long-term mental impairment is known to be a risk in high-contact sports such as boxing, which involves head jarring that, can cause loss of consciousness. But until now it has not been clear whether the much less violent impact of a football on the head could be harmful.

Dr Anne Sereno, from the University of Texas, and colleagues wrote in the online journal Public Library of Science ONE: “These findings suggest that even subconcussive blows in soccer can result in cognitive function changes that are consistent with mild traumatic brain injury of the frontal lobes.”

Numbers of hours per week playing football had a significant effect on response time, while the number of years taking part in the sport had a marginal effect.

The researchers added: “Further study is needed to track soccer players for longer periods to evaluate if these changes are transient or longer lasting, if they are dependent upon repeated sub-concussive blows, and if they generalize to male soccer players.

“To our knowledge, these results provide the first evidence that even subconcussive blows in soccer could lead to measurable, even if possibly transient, cognitive changes in young soccer players.” Dr Serrano hailed the findings as a means of identifying possible neural disorders caused by playing sport.

She said: ‘The app used in our research may be a quick and effective way to screen for and track cognitive changes in athletes it could also have broader applications in clinics or out in the field.’

This study comes just months after an extensive study of the brains of American football players showed than the majority had signs of brain damage as a result of repeated head injuries.

The study, carried out by the Boston University School of Medicine, posthumously tested the brains of 50 footballers. It found a link between head injuries suffered in the heavy-impact sport and degenerative brain disease.

When my brother comes back, he will give the necessary information as he is in the best position to talk.”

20 SECONDARY SCHOOL STUDENTS ARRESTED FOR CULTISM IN OGUN

No fewer than 20 teenagers in two public secondary schools in Ogun State have been arrested by men of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, NSCDC, for cultism and breach of peace.

The Public Relations Officer  of the Corps, Kareem  Olanrewaju,  who disclosed this to newsmen in  Abeokuta, yesterday, said seven of the students  were arrested  at  Nazareth  High School in Imeko in Imeko-Afon Local Government Area of  the State while 11 were nabbed at Lisabi High School, Idi-Aba, Abeokuta.

According to Olanrewaju, the seven secondary school students arrested in Imeko were caught while they were initiating some students into cultism on Tuesday while the 11 students of LisabiHigh School were apprehended, yesterday.

“These seven students of Nazareth were arrested at the school premises while they were initiating new members into cultism by making incisions on their bodies.

“We also arrested 11 students of LisabiHigh School for conducting themselves in a way that breached peace in the School.”

Asked if the command would charge them to court for the alleged crime, the NSCDC spokesman said the students would not be charged to court because of their age, which he described as non-prosecutable.

He said: “We will not charge them to court because of their age. They are under aged and cannot be prosecuted. The command will meet with the Ministry of Education in the state to decide what to do to with them.”

“We observed that, they have been misguided, now that they have been caught, there is need to guide them, we will give them right knowledge.

“We want the government to introduce Civic Education in secondary schools so as to reduce the level of immorality amongst our Children.

“We have discovered in the cause of our investigation  that parents  are not contributing  enough to better the future  of their Children, rather they  have devoted  much of the  time to other things.

SUSPECTED BOKO HARAM MEMBERS ARRESTED IN LAGOS

There were indications, yesterday, that the Boko Haram sect might have infiltrated Lagos State, following raid of a building in Ijora Badia area of Lagos, suspected to have been used as a hideout by the suspected terrorists.

Arrested in the Lagos building were two persons; a Chadian simply identified as Aminu and another man from the northern part of the country whose identity could not be ascertained.

Recovered at the end of the raid carried out by a combined team of Operation Messa, OP MESSA and personnel of the Department of State Security, DSS were AK 47 riffles and some explosives said to have been hidden on the ceiling.

It was gathered that the operatives stormed the building following information on a terror network coordinated by Iranians in Lagos.

The suspects were said to have been immediately whisked into the operatives’ van which headed straight to the airport, enroute Abuja.

Investigation revealed that the suspects moved into the building located on 24 Oyegbemi Street last month. Their movement reportedly aroused suspicion from residents of the area who alerted security operatives.

Residents of the area said that the operatives stormed the building, a bungalow at about 6am and arrested the Chadian, Aminu.

They reportedly came again at noon. “This time, they went round the entire vicinity and arrested some other persons”, a resident said.

The suspects as gathered occupied three rooms in the building. “But we became suspicious following unusual movements in and around the building, with most of the visitors carrying bags. As you can see, the building is located close to this drainage and with the location of the place, nobody was sure of what they were into, until today (yesterday)”, another resident said.

BAN ON TINTED VEHICLE’S GLASSES STILL IN FORCE-IG

The Inspector-General of Police, Mohammed Abubakar, warned Nigerians on the indiscriminate use of tinted glasses in the country.

In a press release signed by the Deputy Force Public Relations Officer, Frank Mba the police said it has observed with grave concern, the alarming abuse and unlawful use of tinted glasses by many motorists.

The police also condemned the plying of highways with unregistered/unlicensed vehicles by some vehicle owners across the country, despite repeated warnings by the police authority an occurrence it said has the capacity, not only to heighten criminal activities, but to place unnecessary pressure on security agencies and law abiding citizens.

Mr. Mba adds that “in view of the potential danger posed by the indiscriminate use of tinted glasses and unregistered/unlicensed vehicles, corroborated by recent security reports that criminal elements, including suspected terrorists, now hide under the cover of the use of the afore mentioned types of vehicles, tricycles and motorcycles to execute their nefarious trade, the IGP wishes to remind Nigerians from all walks of life, including politicians, military and security personnel, that the ban on unlawful and indiscriminate use of tinted glasses and legislation forbidding the plying of unregistered vehicles on our highways, are still very much in force.”

In the light of this the inspector general of police has directed all zonal AIG’s and state command commissioners of police to arrest and bring to book, in line with extant laws, all defaulters.

49 YRS OLD MAN RAPES 7 YRS OLD DAUGTHER, 15 MONTHS OLD GRAND DAUGHTER

Emotion ran high, Wednesday, at the Oduduwa office of the Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer, Ikeja, following a startling revelation by a seven-year-old girl of how her father had been having carnal knowledge of her since she was six.

Aside this, her 49-year-old father, Sylvester Ehijire, who was paraded before newsmen, was also alleged to have had carnal knowledge of his one-year, three month-old grand daughter, in their one-room apartment at 13, Kolawole Street, Ejigbo.

The seven-year-old girl (names withheld) told a bewildered crowd that her father usually committed the sacrilege whenever her mother was away.

According to the primary three pupil, “every time my mother was not at home, my father will call me, dip his finger into my anus and his manhood inside my virginal. He would then promise to buy me biscuit and toy cars if I did not tell anybody. There is no Sunday that he did not do it.”

He threatened to blind me if I tell my mother

Asked why she did not tell her mother, she replied: “Anytime I wanted to tell my mother, he would hold my mouth and remind me of the things he promised me. But I would challenge him that he had never bought any of the things for me. At times when he finished and I threatened to tell my mother, he would tell me he would pluck out my eyes if I told anyone.

“Sometimes, he would even beat me whenever I attempted to open my mouth and also beat my mother with cane.”

Her 45-year-old mother, Mrs. Ehijire, who hails from Iseleuku, Delta State, corroborated her daughter’s claim, disclosing that the abominable act became known in 2006 when her first child, (now married) informed her that her father had been having carnal knowledge of her.

“I travelled to Abuja for a catering job because I am a caterer. At about 1 a.m that fateful day, my daughter called me to say she had just been raped by her father. Then, she was 17 years old. I had to leave the job and travel back to Lagos the next day.  I informed my husband’s parents but all of a sudden my in-laws turned against me, saying I was lying.

“This continued until I could no longer bear it. I had to leave the house with my children in 2007. But I came back in 2011, after entreaties by my in-laws.

“Since then, I did not know he was still doing it until my seven-year-old daughter told me, saying he even threatened to blind her if she opened up to anyone.

“When I confronted him, he started beating me. I went to his family members at Okota to report again but they did not do anything.

“The height of the abominable act happened last Wednesday after when I returned home to meet my one-year three-month-old grand-daughter crying.

“In a bid to pacify the baby, I took her to the backyard for a bath only to discover that her pampers was stained with blood and semen.

“At that point, I screamed and alerted my co- tenants. That was the last straw. I quickly rushed to the Ejigbo police station to report the case.”

Asked why she did not make an effort to protect her female children against such abuse, she explained that after reconciling with her husband in 2007, she usually left her daughter and grand-daughter in a crèche until her return at about 6 p.m.

She said: “I gave a clear instruction to the proprietress never to allow anyone pick the children but me. But last Wednesday, I was told my husband went there and requested to pick them. Even when they resisted, he picked quarrel with them, asking if he had no right to pick his children.

“When I asked my seven-year-old daughter what happened thereafter, she told me that on reaching home, the father sent her and her elder brother who is nine to go and buy bread. She said when they returned, they met the net-door locked.

“While they were waiting for their father to open the door, the baby was yelling inside. Neighbours at this point became suspicious because they were aware of his antecedents. They started banging on the door.

“When my husband opened the door, they said he was sweating. One of them asked him to bring the baby and he did. They tried to pacify her to no avail. Can you imagine that my baby started crying from 3 p.m until 6 p.m when I returned.”

Medical test

To ascertain the claim, policemen at Ejigbo reportedly took both children to the hospital where the medical result made available to journalists showed that both of them had their hymen broken.

While the report of the seven-year-old read: “normal virginal and vulva, broken hymen (dis-virgined), that of the one-year three month-old baby read: “bruised perineum, hymen broken, absent.”

My wife is lying – Accused

But when approached, Ehijire who hails from Uhumwonde area of EdoState, denied the claim, saying it was a mere ploy by his wife to ruin him.

He said: “She is only doing this because I am jobless. I used to be a truck driver. But when the truck engine had problem, I started staying at home. This was exactly what happened to our first daughter who is now married. My wife told the children to lie against me. I did not do it.

“What happened was that last Wednesday, I was at home when my two children came back from school. I told them to show me the creche where the baby was kept and I went to bring her, with the hope that I was helping my wife.”

He, however, told some journalists in confidence that “I swear I did not know what is wrong with me. I believe this is not real. I believe something above the natural is using me to achieve its devilish purpose.”

A mild drama, however, ensued when all of a sudden his wife started pleading on his behalf, after she over-heard the command’s spokesperson, Ngozi Braide, briefing journalists on the legal implication of the man’s act if he is found culpable.

At that point, Mrs. Ehijire said she did not want her husband dead. “If he dies it will affect me as well. I want him to be dealt with and not be killed,” she said.

But Braide hinted that the suspect would be charged to court soon.

OBAMA’S $1.5M LIMO BREAKS DOWN IN ISRAEL AFTER DRIVER PUTS PETROL IN ENGINE INSTEAD OF DIESEL

President Barack Obama’s historic visit to Israel on Wednesday had an embarrassing setback when his armored limousine broke down on the way to the airport.

The custom General Motors Cadillac limo was relegated to a pick-up truck after the driver accidentally put gas (petrol) in the engine instead of diesel. Mr. Obama arrived in Tel Aviv on Wednesday afternoon local time, and earlier that morning, the limo that was designated to his hotel was unable to move after the driver made the silly mistake.

Local news reports alleged that it was the President’s limo that was shipped over from Washington that broke down so he was forced to use the second vehicle that they brought over from the U.S.

Since the car was not able to take him from the airport, thankfully Obama was always scheduled to leave the airport via helicopter in order to avoid passing through the Palestinian checkpoints that interrupt the route from Ben Gurion Airport to Jerusalem.

The United States Secret Service put out a statement about the incident, saying that it was a situation where it pays for them to be prepared.

On his arrival, Obama and his host, Israeli Prime Minister, Benjamin Netanyahu, spoke of the “unbreakable” bond between their two countries, after the president arrived in Israel on Wednesday.

I DON’T BELIEVE IN SEX-FOR-ROLE -ACTRESS UCHE ELENDU

Uche Elendu Igweanyiba, is one of Nigeria’s foremost and brightest actresses, who has starred in over 50 movies.  Uche is married and blessed with a lovely daughter. In this interview she speaks on her life, marriage and other sundry issues

You are one of the most prominent and influential faces in Nollywood. Tell us more about yourself and how you started in the movie industry?
I stumbled into the movie industry in 2002, when I featured in the movie, ‘Fear of the Unknown,’ which was my first movie. I used the word stumbled because I only went to deliver a message to my friend Lisa, whose father is incidentally Larry Koldsweat.

When I got there, I met him and Olu Jacobs, we got talking and they said this girl is going to make a good actress, jokingly they gave me a script to read, I read it and they said they will give me a role in their movie. It worked perfectly well, because I was on holidays. I concluded that it wouldn’t hurt to try it out.

I enjoyed every bit of it because I worked with very accommodating people such as Edith Jane Azu, Olu Jacobs and Francis Agu of blessed memory. It was really a nice experience and I afterwards made up my mind to go into full time acting.

How is life and the acting career treating you?
Life has been amazing, all thanks to God. The acting career is fine as well; I give God the glory for his grace upon my life, family and career.

You have a beautiful daughter…your fans would love to know how married life has being?
Well so far so good, I am still young in marriage but no bitter experience yet and I hope it goes on that way. I’m happy, I married my friend and he has been my pillar of strength and support. My daughter is four years old now, which means I have been married for that long. I have been able to create a comfortable balance by the grace of God to manage my family and career effectively without any setback.

How did you meet your husband?
(Laughs) Funny enough, my husband was a fan, who kept calling to appreciate me. Sometimes, I answer his calls and most times I tell my personal assistant to pick the call and tell him that I am busy. But that did not deter him, he was persistently calling and insisting that he saw me on the screen and just knew that I am his wife.

He was bent on seeing me and getting to know me better. After a couple of months of persistent calling, I thought I should see this patient man and then I invited him over and the rest of the story resulted in this beautiful ring in my finger…(smiles)

How did your first movie help shape your career?
My first movie was ‘Fear of the Unknown’ in 2002, but after the movie, I left the industry to face my studies squarely. I wrote my final exams and after that, I came back to the industry in 2004, got registered with the Actors Guild of Nigeria and started auditioning. My first audition was in Aba for a movie titled, ‘Pride of Destiny’ directed by Ndubuisi Okoh.  I was cast for the lead role, which I carried out impressively and I afterwards started getting calls for movie roles.

So has acting in anyway changed you from who you really were…what good has it done to you?
No…Not at all, I am a very natural person and I still maintain that. I only assume the character I am playing on set but out of set, I’m me… Acting has made me realized and discovered myself better including all my weaknesses because as a personality in the public eye, it takes a lot of originality and humility to remain cool headed, and not get carried away. My career has opened doors for me and opened my eyes to a lot of things. Acting also brought my darling husband to my doorstep. (Laughs)

What is different since you got married, what good has it done to you?
Definitely, marriage has given me a sense of responsibility and also made me a fulfilled woman.

How would you describe your husband…How romantic is he?
(Laughs), very romantic in his own unique way.

Your husband was a big fan before marriage…Does he still watch your movies?
A whole lot, he does. He is a big critic so most times he watches my movies to criticize and also commend me.

When you act a sexy role, as a professional how does he react to your kisses on set?
It is funny because all the while I have not noticed anything different in his reactions when he is watching my movies. He knows I am just doing my job; he has been to location to watch me, so he knows there are lots of people behind the camera. When he watches maybe a scene I’m supposed to kiss and I did not do it well, he would ask if the guy had a bad breath… (Laughs).

Sometimes though I don’t feel comfortable with him watching so I try to distract him and it works sometimes but most times he is too engrossed to be distracted. He trusts and encourages me to give my best to my job.

Which would you say is your saddest moment in the industry? Have you had to face any embarrassing situation for playing a particular character?
I really don’t get embarrassed by my fans because most of the time, I know what to expect from them, so I don’t find it embarrassing although, some other person may find it embarrassing.

I can remember on one occasion after a movie, titled ‘Last Occult,’ where I played the role of an occultic witch goddess, I was talking to a friend, and I was actually kidding her.

I told her that I will deal with her and a woman suddenly emerged from nowhere and called her up for a private discussion warning her to be very careful with me, that I am a very dangerous person. She told her that I am an occultic goddess that I could actually harm her judging by my role in that movie.

She concluded that I did it so well because I am occultic in reality. My friend and I started laughing when she told me, I did not find it embarrassing because I expected things like that from fans.

We know you have starred in loads of movie, how many movies do you have to your credit?
Sincerely I have lost count but over 50movies to my credit.

What is your view on sexual harassment in Nollywood and what do you think should be done about it?
There is sexual harassment in every sector of life; in the banks, corporate world, any where you can think of.  It does not only happen in Nollywood. I’ve never experienced it though I have heard about it.  I don’t understand why some girls that are being asked out by either producer, actors and so on term it as harassment…As an adult if a man asks you out and you feel you don’t like him or you’re not up to it, you say “NO” and that is it. I don’t think anyone would rape you.

Moreover, sex for role is crap because after sleeping with whoever to get a role and you end up not competent enough for the role, nobody would throw away so much resources because of some minutes of sexual pleasure. The basic thing is that one should have the needed skills and potentials to get a good role. So whoever is playing a role has to truly merit it.

The person has to be able to deliver and sell the movie. Different people work on the cast of a movie; like the director, producer, production manager, crew and so on. So it would not work because movie making is not a one man thing. I don’t believe in sex for roles.

Tell us what you do at leisure; do you have any pet project running aside the movie thing?
I do a lot of reading and travelling; when I am not on set, I travel and spend time with my family. I also love to sleep because rest is important. I’m not into any sort of recreational activity, I also create time to visit the less privileged with my daughter to teach her like my mother did, how to reach out to the less privileged. By the grace of God I’m working on a home to empower young abused girls and handicapped females.

How do you unwind with your young family? Has your husband ever complained of not getting enough attention from you?
No… Never… My husband does not live in the country so that gives me enough time for my job, when my daughter is on holidays we travel out and visit places. We also visit my husband regularly and if he misses me a phone call will do the magic, so you see we are doing just fine by the grace of God.

What is your message to young aspiring actresses who are desperate about making a big break in the industry and the new AGN president, Ibinabo?
Well my advice to the young ones has always been, discover yourself first and be sure of what exactly you want to do and can do, everybody must not be in the front of the camera, those behind the camera are doing well too. They should believe in God and themselves and if they are sure they can do it, they should take that bold step and go for what they believe in and the sky will be their starting point.

Ibinabo is a blessing to AGN. I advice her to be steadfast and not relent in carrying out all the plans she has for the Guild. So far she has made very commendable efforts and as a woman, I am proud of her and will support her all the way. She should hold on to God, avoid listening to gossip, ignore her haters and embrace those that wish her well. May God bless her and the AGN.

LAGOS TARGETS N22BN MONTHLY IGR

LAGOS State Internal Revenue Service, LIRS, has said it planned to rake in N22 billion per month as internally generated revenue, IGR, even as it said it would start prosecuting tax defaulters any moment now.

Chairman of LIRS, Mr. Babatunde Fowler, spoke during the presentation of awards to artisans in the informal sector and Abibatu Mogaji.

According to Fowler, the IGR on the average, two years ago, when audited, was N17.5 billion per month while the target was at least N22 billion per month in line with the budget passed by the state House of Assembly.

According to him “In line with the budget passed by the House of Assembly, the target is to generate at least N22 billion per month. The IGR on the average, two years ago, when they audited the account, was N17.5 billion per month. We are here today because the compliance rate in the market is close to 100 per cent.

“In the newspaper, we had published that we will prosecute the people who do not pay tax. That is a law that has been on but we have not enforced that law. But from this year, anyone who does not pay tax will be charged to court.

“The challenges that we face is that nobody wants to pay tax, not only in Nigeria but in the world all over. That is the major problem. But you can see what is happening to Lagos State, the governor is carrying out his vision and things are working. We have good roads, good schools, we have good security and others. All these come from tax payers’ money.”

How was 2012 for you?
The previous year was a good one for me and my household; although there were little challenges in some months but by his grace I was able to overcome it. I can say authoritatively that 2012 favoured me in many ways most especially in my acting career.

Although sometimes in August last year my car (Helmet) was stolen and that got me pissed off; but am currently doing well even without a car of my own. My most joyous moment in 2012 was December 31st when the love of my life finally proposed to me and I had no choice than to say a big yes to that.

December was my most memorable moment in 2012. I am only hoping 2013 is going to be greater for me and my entire family as well as the movie industry in general. Sincerely speaking 2013, I will be touching lives.

Did you ever believe he could propose to you so soon, as it was barely few months when you met?
It does not matter if you met within two weeks but the most important thing is if the love, affection and understanding are there; then expect the unexpected. I never sensed that because my birthday was the first time we kissed and that alone swept me off my feet and ever since I had always assumed something new was coming my way.

My joy knew no bound when he proposed to me on the ferry; I had no choice than to respond with the YES answer. We were both coming from Moji Olaiya’s movie location when the big thing happened as I want to call it.

In your own words, how well will you describe Adeniyi Johnson your fiancé?
Sincerely speaking I am presently short of words but in all, he is my happiness, joy, crown (Ade Ori) and I feel safe whenever he is around me. Usually when I am asked about him, I feel butterflies in my tummy, I love him, If I want to eat I call him; if he wants to do anything he calls me. We talk all the time. Whenever I set my eyes on him…I don’t just know.

There is the issue of Nollywood stars getting hooked-up to overseas men either from Canada or Holland; what is your view on this?
(Laughs), I am not being personal here but maybe because they like Hollandia milk and other foreign things like that; that’s the more reason you see them going for the bigger boys over there. For me, my fiancé is a Nigerian and he is born and brought up here too, so I am very much comfortable with him; and to those doing the peak and hollandian thing; it’s their choice. Remember we cannot all be the same.

How true is the notion that you act out your past experiences in your movies ?
Sincerely speaking, I am not from a rich family but thank God the rest is history now because my work has paved way for me; as regards some of the notion about my experience in the film I shoot. I believe all the roles and films I have shot depict the happenings in the society where you and I live.

My role in Alakada is an everyday thing that happens in most tertiary institutions and I am just preaching the gospel that it’s wrong to present yourself the way you are not. Like the Yoruba adage goes “Ma fi ago alagosise”.

What is the notion behind your new film Oritoke?
I love children and the special kids as well so the movie is actually a dedication to them and it has to do with Autism (a brain disease caused as a result of disorder of neural development characterised by impaired social interaction and communication and by restricted and repetitive behaviour). I am playing the role of the girl with this disease born into a rich home and my only best friend happen to be an imbecile.

However, my character has a talent, she can drum very well. She thinks like a child, she has the brain of a six-year-old although she is about 30 years. It’s fantastic movie that will be loved when it is released. I have a rich cast and it includes Muyiwa Ademola, Olaniyi Afonja (Sanyeri), Biodun Okeowo, Adeniyi Johnson, Remi Surutu, Allwell, Kanyinsola Eniola, Afeez Eniola, No network amongst others and it is directed by Mr Bayo Alawiye.

Sometime in October last year your Honda Helmet car was stolen, so what ride are you driving now?
Did I hear you say car? My dear ever since they stole my car I don’t have a replacement car presently and am not pissed by it. I have had many people call me to say they heard that my car was stolen that I should come and have another. I just have to move on and if they do not buy me car, I won’t get either because where is the money now?

Those people that stole my car should keep driving it about, I just want them to know that I don’t have a car and when they are done, they should return it but am very sure someone will call me soon to come pick up a car.

On the days when you are stressed out, what calms you?
Cooking calms me a lot. When I can’t sleep at night, I cook. I read a lot. I think that no knowledge is ever lost and reading brings a wealth of knowledge. If you constantly go there you can never lack.

What was growing up like for you?
Growing up was fun for me although I was born and brought up in a poor background; trust me it’s all in the past now. In my growing up days, we were made to sell stuffs on the road and also from my house let’s take for instance going to fetch water from a distance like Maryland to Ikeja and it was fun for me; I go to the farm to get cassava, I can actually make garri but now everything has changed ranging from I want to use blackberry Z-10 to I want to drive the latest car.

Who is Toyin Aimakhu?
Toyin is a nice, friendly and accommodating person, I am not harsh or aggressive like people say. All I do is act and interpret my role. If I am aggressive I won’t be granting this interview because I love my private life a lot. I believe in honesty and perseverance. I play a lot; I don’t lie to myself and as such I don’t go beyond my limit. I also believe in timing.

EKITI DEPUTY GOV EMBARKS ON 3-MONTH SICK LEAVE

THERE is anxiety in Ekiti State over the health of the deputy governor of the state, Mrs. Funmi Olayinka.

A statement by the state Commissioner for Information and Civic Orientation, said “Ekiti State government wishes to inform members of the public that the deputy governor of the state, Mrs. Funmilayo Olayinka, has taken leave to attend to issues relating to her health.”

Ekundayo said in the two-paragraph statement that “we urge all well-meaning citizens of the state to remember her in their prayers.”

However, a source in the government said that the deputy governor only applied for leave, saying she could do whatever she wanted with her leave.

There has been anxiety over the health of the deputy governor among her supporters and it became heightened on Monday following the government statement.

“Her health has been a source of concern. But with the government statement, it means that there is more to it now because they had kept mute all this while over the matter,” a source close to government said.

62 FAKE CORPS MEMBERS ARRESTED AT FAKE NYSC ORIENTATION CAMP

NIGERIA Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Nasarawa State Command, on Monday, arrested 62 fake corps members at another fake National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) orientation camp at Tammah village, in Nasarawa Local Government Area of the state.

It was gathered that the fake orientation camp was to operate for just one day, in which all the fake corps members would take their photographs with both the NYSC vested crest and other kits and were likely to be issued fake certificates forthwith for future references.

Parading the suspects, 44 females and 18 males, the state commandant, Mr. Andekin Amos Musa, said the arrest was made possible through the routine surveillance of members of the state command, adding that four drivers, who convened them to the village and one of the photographers assigned for the illicit job, were also arrested.

According to him: “The suspected fake corps members were arrested at the outskirt of Nasarawa town near the Government Secondary School, and investigations are still on, as they will be charged to court immediately after investigations.

“Our investigations thus far revealed that one Mr. Chinedu, was the coordinator and director of the fake camp.

“Further investigations revealed that the suspected  fake corps members paid money ranging from N120,000 to N200,000  before they were admitted to the camp. “I want to warn parents and guardians to monitor their children and wards very closely, so as to curb their excesses,” he added.

In an interview with newsmen, some of the suspects, who were alleged to be running evening classes at the University of Jos, Jos, Plateau State capital, lamented that they were lured into it, saying, “we were not aware it is fake due to our desperation to get job after the education, because without the NYSC certificate, we may not get a job in the future.”

It will be recalled that the command had paraded fake corps members, who were arrested at two different fake camps in preparations for induction and orientation in the outskirt of the state, recently.

BILL GATES CANCELS VISIT TO NIGERIA OVER ALAMIEYESEIGHA’S PARDON

United States’ richest man, Mr. Bill Gates, has cancelled his scheduled March 27  official visit to Nigeria in response to the controversial pardon granted by President Goodluck Jonathan to two ex-convicts, former Bayelsa State governor Diepreye Alamieyeseigha and former managing director of the Bank of the North (now Unity Bank Plc) Alhaji Shettima Bulama.

Gates was due in Nigeria on March 27 and 28 to meet Jonathan, state governors and officials of the Federal Ministry of Health concerning the aggressive polio eradication campaign the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation is undertaking in the country.

The trip, authoritative diplomatic sources said, has now been cancelled, two days after the US government expressed disappointment with its Nigerian counterpart for pardoning convicted money launderers and warned it might cut aid meant for the country.

One of the sources also said, “I can confirm to you that Gates won’t be coming as scheduled. The body language of Washington, DC, does not support his travelling to Nigeria.  The thinking here is that the Nigerian government has high tolerance level for corruption and should be ostracized in all ways possible.”

Gates was further said to have instructed his staff to inform the Nigerian presidency, the secretariat of the Nigeria Governors’ Forum and the Federal Ministry of Health that he was no longer coming.

The controversial pardon granted Alamieyeseigha and Bulama had led to a diplomatic row between Nigeria and the US.

Gates is the biggest foreign supporter of the campaign to eradicate polio in Nigeria and has worked consistently with the federal government since 2009 on the matter. His foundation has developed a six-year strategy through 2018 that will help combat polio in Nigeria, Pakistan and Afghanistan and has set aside $1billion per annum for the purpose.

DANGOTE, DANTATA TO INVEST IN SUDAN

Business moguls Alh. Aliko Dangote and Alh Aminu Dantata are set to invest in the cement and oil industries of Sudan, Sudan’s Minister of Investment, Mustapha Usman Ismail, has disclosed.

This is just as the planned International Donor Conference would focus on rehabilitating and resettling about 200,000 refuges.

Ismail, a special envoy of Sudanese President Omar Albashir to Nigeria, spoke to journalists at the weekend on his mission in Nigeria, the potentials of Sudan as well as the intent of the Donor Conference.

He said against negative pictures painted of Sudan, the truth remained that the country as at today boasts of huge potentials  in virtually all sectors of its economy be it agriculture, oil, mining, construction, education as well as animals and meat resources.

He also revealed Sudan’s readiness to establish the Sudanese – Nigerian bank, noting that it would go a long way in cementing trade relation between the two countries, adding that about 50 international banks were already operational in Sudan.

The minister, who said he was in the country to solicit the assistance of President Goodluck Jonathan, in the actualization of the Donor Conference, clarified that as an agreement signed two years ago for which a transitional regional committee was established, the funds to be generated from the event which would come up in April, would assist in resettling the over 200,000 refugees that were affected during the crisis in the Darfur region.

TOP INEC STAFF FIGHT BOSS PROF. JEGA OVER PROMOTION

2015 general elections appear to be under threat as some senior officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, vested with the responsibility of planning and implementing the vote, are enmeshed in a dispute with the Chairman of the Commission, Prof.  Attahiru Jega.

The affected staff, who had taken their promotion examination since May 2012 and had been expecting their promotion letters having passed the test, are angry that the Commission has not only  withheld the result but has also gone ahead to use extraneous criteria to promote selected staff from some states in the country.

The action has given rise to the fear that some staff are systematically being positioned to give a section of the country undue advantage in the 2015 presidential election.

“The structure of the place (INEC) remains skewed, biased and worrisome as we approach 2015. Promotion has been swayed more by regional control of the place to the extent that the criteria are not certain. Recently, at a meeting, a suggestion was put forward for what was termed ‘special promotion’ without giving details of what constitutes special promotion, and if there is any promotion in the civil service called by such name. It all turned out to be more people from a section of the country who would be promoted.

“It is still in the cooler because it could not be defended but the move may come under a new strategy”, a source said.

Findings revealed that apart from scoring a minimum of 60 percent in the May 2012 promotion exam, INEC also considered state quota in promoting most of the 669 senior staff who took the exam and were recommended for promotion.

Trouble started when some of the affected staff awaiting their promotion letters got to know that they had been stagnated because of what INEC described as “lack of vacancies in the affected employees’ states”.

On the promotion list, some staff who scored 60 percent in the examination were recommended for elevation while others who scored 67 percent were stagnated because there were ‘’no vacancies” in their states.

Some of the aggrieved workers have, however, dismissed the claim of lack of vacancies as an afterthought by the electoral body’s authorities  to deny them career advancement since the issue was not a criterion before the examination was set.

Their grouse is that Jega invented a ‘strange rule’ to promote people in some states to the detriment of those from other states who passed the examination in flying colours.

The breakdown in some states shows that the staff from many states were denied promotion because of their number. For instance, of the 15 senior staff from Abia State recommended for elevation, only three were denied due to lack of vacancies.

Only eight of the 30 staff of Akwa Ibom origin in INEC, who were successful in the exam, were promoted due to the fact that the state has had its fair share in the Commission.

Similarly, in Anambra, only nine persons out of 25 who passed the test were promoted. The situation was the same in Imo, where only seven out of 37 were lifted to their new ranks while six were elevated out of 17 who made it in Benue.

But some states were lucky. Lagos got 12 out of 12, Delta got all its 11 workers lifted, Zamfara, all four, Yobe, all eight, Sokoto got all seven recommended, Ekiti, nine,  Nasarawa, all seven, Gombe seven, and Taraba, all 12. Bayelsa, Ondo, Enugu and Kebbi got close to getting all that was recommended for promotion in those states.

Only one out of the nine recommended for elevation in Bayelsa did not get it just as two out of 13 in Jigawa lost out. ”0ur worry is that the chairman is inventing a segregate measures to favour those he likes and stagnate the others from certain states in the country”, one of the aggrieved INEC staff said.

This strange tactic is unknown to the civil service rules, which emphasize the promotion of staff based on performance at the promotion examination and not on state of origin.

“Let it be known that this policy is an afterthought since it was not made before the promotion examination. It therefore, amounts to shifting the goalpost after the game had been concluded. “It is on record that the welfare policy of the Jega administration in INEC is at zero level. His lot has been unfulfilled promises and this has led to an all-time low morale of  staff across the country.

“The staff are feeling betrayed and deceived since Jega has only two years to the end of his tenure in INEC.”  The aggrieved staff also accused the administration of using consultants to undertake jobs, which could be handled by staff at exorbitant costs, thereby depleting the resources of the Commission.

The workers said the recent recruitment of 1,500 workers by the electoral body did not follow due process, leading to the querying of the process by the National Assembly. The workers accused Jega of smuggling the new staff into INEC with the active connivance of a national commissioner and a level 13 officer.

But the Commission’s Chairman dismissed all the allegations as baseless and a figment of the imagination of those bent on discrediting INEC and its objective management policies. Jega, who spoke through his Chief Press Secretary, Mr. Kayode Idowu, stated that, contrary to the allegation of favouritism leveled against him, he did his best to ensure that those who passed the examination were promoted based on available vacancies and taking into cognizance the Federal Character principle.

On the recruitment of the new staff, he said it was done openly and in accordance with the rules. ”It was because the recruitment followed due process that the National Assembly did not invite INEC to answer questions when some other agencies of the government were summoned last week,” Idowu explained.

The spokesman also defended the use of consultants by the Commission to create Asset Register, saying that nine existed before the appointment of the Jega-led administration. “Look, let me tell you that all these allegations are often fuelled by people who do not want things done the right way. Prof Jega is determined to change the ways things were done shoddily and move the Commission forward for the best interest of the nation,” the spokesman stated.

NIGERIA LOST $500BN TO CORRUPTION SINCE 1960-PROF.AKINYEMI

About $500 billion had been lost to corruption in the country from 1960 till date. This was the submission of former Minister of External Affairs, Professor Bolaji Akinyemi during the one day Minna National Discourse on corruption.

According to the former envoy, the raising insecurity in some parts of the north, the militancy in the south- south and the kidnapping for ransom in the south-east are all the consequences of the high level of corruption that has rocked the nation for many years.

The Governor of Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Mallam Sanusi Lamido, who chaired the event, told the gathering that contrary to the wide held belief, corruption is not the greatest problem confronting the country but the lack of general framework for accountability in all sphere of our national life.

Also speaking at the event, the Minister and deputy chairman National Planning Commission, Shamsudeen Usman noted that until the issue of corruption is tackled headlong, the nation’s Vision 202020 would just be a mirage.

He however gave some suggestions on how corruption can be eradicated in the country

Also speaking the Governor of Rivers state and chairman, Nigeria Governors Forum, Chibuke Amaechi blamed the high level of insecurity in the country to the corruption of the ruling class.

While for the Governor of Niger state, Muazu Aliyu, corruption arises because there is surplus money available to politicians.

The inaugural Minna National Discourse on Corruption has as its theme; Confronting Trends of Indiscipline, Corruption and Disregard For Rules and Regulations in Nigeria.

The discourse held in Minna, the Niger state capital.
