A 22-year-old woman, Nwachukwu Blessing, has been arrested by the Anambra State Police Command over an alleged plot to fake her kidnap and collect ₦3m ransom from her family.
Blessing was reportedly abducted along the Onitsha–Asaba Expressway on August 29, 2026, with her family later paying ₦3m to secure her release.
But when the supposed kidnappers failed to release her despite receiving the ransom, police launched an investigation into the incident.
The breakthrough came on Friday, September 18, when operatives of the Rapid Response Squad, Awkuzu, traced the alleged victim to a room in Asaba, Delta State, and recovered her.
Police spokesman, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, said preliminary investigation showed that Blessing allegedly worked with a female associate identified as Onyinye and another male accomplice to stage the kidnapping.
Ikenga said the identity of the male suspect was still unknown, while Onyinye’s other names were yet to be established.
According to him, credible intelligence gathered during the investigation led detectives to the location where Blessing was found.
The police spokesman said the suspect was now assisting investigators with information that could lead to the arrest of her alleged accomplices and clarify the circumstances surrounding the incident.
The Commissioner of Police, Anambra State Command, CP Nnanna Ama, has ordered intensified investigation, directing detectives to identify and arrest all those found culpable.
The command said anyone established to have participated in the alleged crime would be prosecuted in accordance with the law.
