The Nigeria Police Force has launched an investigation into allegations of threats, harassment, abuse of office and interference with bank accounts involving Deputy Inspector-General of Police, Ibrahim Baba Zango.
The allegations were raised by Zango’s estranged Egyptian wife, Karma Saleh, through a petition submitted to the Inspector-General of Police by her lawyers, Aliyu Saiki, SAN & Co., according to a report by SaharaReporters obtained by OrijoReporter.
The petition was referred to the Force Intelligence Department for investigation and later assigned to the Counter Intelligence Unit.
Saleh, 29, alleged that Zango used his position to threaten her with arrest and deportation, monitor her financial activities and cause the restriction of her bank accounts.

She also alleged that a criminal case was instituted against her at the Force Criminal Investigation Department Annex in Kaduna and accused the police investigator handling the matter, identified as SP DanMallam, of acting on Zango’s instructions.
According to the report, Saleh further alleged that she paid N200,000 after being told the money would help facilitate the unblocking of her accounts, but the restrictions allegedly remained.
She told investigators that she married Zango under the Marriage Act on January 8, 2020, but said the couple had lived apart for years and had no children.
Saleh also disclosed that she had commenced divorce proceedings at the Lagos State High Court, saying she was no longer interested in the marriage.
She alleged that her Access Bank account was blocked in December 2025 while she was outside Nigeria and that she later learnt that she could be arrested if she visited the bank.
Zango denied the allegations during the investigation.
Instead, he accused Saleh and one of her friends of conspiring to defraud him of N2m, allegedly meant for the purchase of a laptop and tablet which he said he never received. He also claimed that Saleh was in possession of five of his vehicles.
The police investigation reportedly concluded that the dispute appeared to be largely connected to the breakdown of the marriage.
However, investigators recommended an independent review of the circumstances surrounding the restriction of Saleh’s accounts and the criminal case being handled at the FCID Annex in Kaduna.
The report, signed by DIG Zachariah Fera Achiya, did not establish that Zango unlawfully blocked the accounts or abused his office, but called for the circumstances to be subjected to further scrutiny.
Zango was among senior police officers promoted from Assistant Inspector-General to Deputy Inspector-General in March as part of changes to the leadership structure of the Nigeria Police Force.
