Air Marshal Sadique Abubakar (retd.), husband of Minister of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management and Social Development, Hajiya Sadiya Farouq, said 1.4m children of school age in Bauchi are are disposing of their times in idleness and dissipation.
Farouq, the All Progressives Congress, APC governorship gave this disturbing figure at an event organised by his wife to serenade him alongside his friends and some select Bauchi indigenes at International Conference Centre in Abuja.
Earlier in the event, the minister spoke glowingly of him describing him as a supportive husband and the next Bauchi State governor.
While taking his turn to make his speech, the former Chief of Air Staff alluded to alleged collapse of the educational sector in the State, alleging that several children who were supposed to be in schools were unable due to the incumbent’s failings.
“We must collective work to reopen the gates of schools to students that have been denied opportunity to attend one. In Bauchi State alone, we have 1.4m out-of-school children,” the APC governorship candidate claimed.
He also spoke of purported high mortality rate among women in the state, saying, “Similarly, we have 1, 549 women who died for every 100,000 births in Bauchi. These statistics are very frightening. But I will continue to put in my best for my people and the State after spending over 42 years of service in the Air Force.”
