About a thousand staff with the Central Bank of Nigeria are said to be on the brink of retirement.

This is according to Daily Trust citing an unnamed source.

It said before the year end about a thousand staff will take their exit from the apex bank by way of retirement.

The report further said the retirement would set the bank back by about N50 billion in payoff to the affected workers.

In the last 10 months, the CBN had disengaged many of its staffers, including 17 directors, who served under the immediate past governor, Godwin Emefiele.

Those 17 directors are yet to be replaced.
