The Saudi Arabia authorities have declared intending pilgrims from Nigeria and other countries persona non grata at the 2021 Hajj due to coronavirus.
The bar was announced on Saturday by the kingdom’s hajj ministry with the statement saying only 60,000 vaccinated residents of the kingdom would perform the annual hajj.
This is the second time running intending pilgrims from Nigeria would be deprived of performing hajj due to COVID-19.
The first time was last year when the kingdom announced similar measure to curtail the spread of the novel disease.
Scheduled to be held at the end of July, this year’s pilgrimage would be limited to those who have been vaccinated and are below 65 years of age with no chronic illnesses.
Saudi Arabia has so far recorded more than 460,000 coronavirus infections, including 7,536 deaths.
