At least five worshippers have been killed with many injured as a suicide bomber detonated explosives at Gambarou Jumu’at mosque in Maiduguri, the Borno State capital.
According to reports, the bomber, an unkempt male entered the mosque during the Maghrib congregational prayer at around 6.30pm, and detonated the explosive devise.
It was said that most of the casualties were those in the last row while their counterparts ahead of them mostly survived unharmed.
“The bomber detonated when the first raka’at of the Maghrib prayer was observed. Many worshippers died, others sustained various injuries,” an eyewitness told newsmen.
