The untoward incident happened last Tuesday, along Ore-Ijebu Ode-Sagamu Expressway in Ogun State when a white Toyota Hiace 18 seater-commercial bus with marked AYB 479 XA boarded by 15 returnees from Libya, and a Volvo truck marked KSF 79 XL collided about 11.00pm, close to Omoo River.
According to Ogun State Sector Commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Mr. Clement Oladele, the crash was caused by the driver of the truck, saying he drove against traffic, and in the process had a head on collision with the commercial bus.
Oladele said eight of the Libya returnees in the bus died, adding that the information gleaned from some of the survivors was that they were on their way to the Synagogue Church of All Nations (SCOAN) in Lagos, to receive spiritual and financial assistance from Prophet T. B. Joshua.
“The injured were taken to Ijebu-Ode General Hospital and the corpses were deposited at the hospital mortuary. The burnt carcasses were removed from the road by the FRSC rescue team,” Oladele said.
