Nigeria Correctional Service, NCoS, has denied report that suspended Deputy Commissioner of Police, Abba Kyari, was among inmates that escaped from the Kuje Medium Security Custodial Centre, Abuja, on Tuesday night.
A top official of who spoke with newsmen on condition of anonymity, said the report was not truth, adding that the terrorists that bombed the facility attempted to gain entry into Kyari’s cell, but could not.
A group of terrorists, on Tuesday night, attacked the prison in Abuja, the nation’s capital, with bombs and other high calibre arms.
Recall that besides Kyari, other high personalities in the prison are former governor of Taraba State, Jolly Nyame, and Farouk Lawan, a former member of the House of Representatives.
Meanwhile, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Interior, Dr. Shuaib Belgore, said over 600 of the inmates fled the prison when it came under attack.
He, however, said about 300 had been recaptured, while 300 were still at large.
