ACTRESS STEPHANIE OKEREKE’S NEPHEW ARRAIGNED IN COURT FOR RAPING UNILAG STUDENT

Actress Stephanie Okereke’s nephew, Daniel Okere(pictured) was on Friday arraigned before a Yaba Chief Magistrate’s Court for raping a 300-level University of Lagos undergraduate (name withheld).

Ironically, Daniel’s aunt, Stephanie owns an NGO that promotes the cause of women, “Extended Hands Foundation” which she set up to help women with VVF (Vesicovaginal fistula).

Daniel was said to have lured his victim from her hostel, Moremi hall, where she was held down by fever to his house at Mende, in Maryland after he took her to a pharmacy, and an eatery to buy her drug and food.

The 32-year-old and one Idris Abubakar, a security guard are facing five count charge bordering on conspiracy, assault, rape and threat to life preferred against them by the police.

The police prosecutor Superintendent Godwin Anyanwu, told the court that the defendants committed the alleged offence between 2:30-11pm.

According to the prosecutor, the offences contravened sections 409, 171, 261 and punishable under section 56 and 258 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011.

The Magistrate Aje-Afunwa, granted the first defendant bail in the sum of N200,000, with one responsible surety in like sum, while the second defendant was admitted bail in the sum of N50,000, with one surety in like sum.

She also said that the surety must either be a relative, a cleric or a community leader.

The matter was adjourned till January 9, 2015, for trial.
