Alison-Madueke’s loot: US returns $52.88m to Nigeria — FG

The Federal Government said it received $52.88m from the United States of America in recovered assets linked to former Minister of Petroleum, Diezani Alison-Madueke.

The Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Lateef Fagbemi, made this known at the formal signing ceremony of the asset agreement between Nigeria and the United States in Abuja on Friday.

Fagbemi, by Channels TV reports, stated that $50 million of the recovered sum would be deployed through the World Bank for the development of rural electrification projects, while the remaining $2 million would be used by the International Institute of Justice to expand the justice system and combat corruption.

Speaking further, the minister stated that the asset return underscored the collaborative efforts between Nigeria and the USA to combat corruption and uphold the rule of law

He added that the event was a significant step in President Bola Tinubu’s efforts to address corruption.
