Popular boxer Anthony Joshua has escaped death in a road crash in which two passengers in a Lexus SUV he was in died on the spot.

The melancholy event happened on Monday on Lagos-Ibadan expressway around past 11am.

The scene was before Danco Filling Station in Makun, before Sagamu Interchange inward Ibadan axis of the road.

Eyewitnesses said in the ill-fated Lexus Joshua sat behind the driver seat and one person sat beside the driver and another took the seat beside the boxer while his security detail was in a Pajero SUV which was behind theirs.

The accident ensued according to report when the Lexus Jeep with the number plate, KRD 850 HN, rammed into a stationary truck leaving the person beside Joshua and that of the driver’s dead.

On Joshua and the driver’s parts they reportedly escaped with minor injuries and were rushed to hospital.

The tragedy has drawn reactions from the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC).

FRSC Corps Marshal Shehu Mohammed in a statement credited to him traced the accident to over speeding on the part of the Lexus Jeep driver in a disastrous bid to overtake in the course of which collusion with the stationary truck occurred.
