The claim that an attempt was made to assasinate Ataoja of Osogbo, His Royal Majesty (HRM), Oba Jimoh Oyetunji Laaroye II has drawn reaction from the police.

On June 3, one Semilola Monday, also known as Ankara breached the palace security when he jumped into the residence from the fence in the morning drawing confrontation from guards and domestic staff.

Consequently report followed that there was an attempt on Oba Laaroye’s life, a claim police authorities in the state has now dismissed.

The dismissal was conveyed on Friday via a statement the State command Police Public Relations Officer, Abiodun Ojelabi released.

Ojelabi in the refutal said police set up a committee to investigate the matter and found the assassination claim inaccurate.

“The report from the committee reveals that the suspect was not in possession of a firearm or any offensive weapon at the time of his arrest,” the command stated.

It added that the suspect was arraigned before Magistrate Court II, Osogbo, on June 8 on a charge of attempted felony and has been remanded in a correctional centre pending further proceedings.
