A devastating road accident has claimed the lives of Ibrahim Duguri, Executive Secretary of the Bauchi State Health Contributory Management Agency, and four of his children, leaving the family and the state in mourning.
The crash reportedly occurred on Saturday at Yalwan Duguri in Alkaleri Local Government Area of Bauchi State.
The four children who died alongside their father were identified as Hajara, Usman, Rukayya and Maryam.
Another son, Suleiman, reportedly survived the accident.
Bauchi State Governor, Bala Mohammed, expressed grief over the tragedy, describing Duguri’s death as a major loss to the state, particularly its health sector.
The governor’s Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Mukhtar Gidado, disclosed this in a condolence statement issued on Saturday.
Mohammed said the deceased had distinguished himself through his dedication to improving access to healthcare, particularly for vulnerable and less privileged residents.
According to the governor, Duguri played a significant role in advancing the state’s health contributory management system and contributed to efforts aimed at making medical services more accessible to residents.
The governor also recalled Duguri’s service as part of the state’s medical team during pilgrimage exercises in Saudi Arabia, where he helped cater to the health needs of pilgrims.
Beyond their official relationship, Mohammed disclosed that Duguri was his close personal friend and classmate, making the tragedy a deeply personal loss.
He described the late agency chief as a trusted companion whose life was marked by loyalty, public service and commitment to humanity.
The governor expressed particular anguish over the deaths of the four children in the same accident, saying the tragedy had compounded the family’s suffering.
He said the loss of four young members of one family in a single incident was heartbreaking, adding that words could hardly capture the pain of the bereaved family.
Mohammed prayed to Almighty Allah to forgive the shortcomings of Duguri and his children, accept their good deeds and grant them eternal rest in Aljannatul Firdaus.
He also prayed for Suleiman, the surviving son, and other members of the family to receive the strength to endure the painful loss.
The governor urged Bauchi residents to remember the bereaved family in their prayers and offer support and compassion during the period of mourning.
The funeral prayer for Duguri and his deceased children was scheduled to hold at the palace of the District Head of Yalwan Duguri on Sunday, October 18, 2026, at 11am.
