The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, on Tuesday, has said that detained Binance Holdings Limited executive, Tigran Gambaryan, also plotted to flee Nigeria like his fugitive colleague, Nadeem Anjarwalla.

Anjarwalla, who escaped to Kenya from the custody of the National Security Adviser, and Gambaryan are standing trial over alleged money laundering bordering on concealing the source of $35,400, 000 generated as revenue by Binance in Nigeria.

The sum is said by the prosecuting EFCC to be proceeds of unlawful activity.

On Tuesday, the anti-graft agency Counsel, Emeka Iheanacho, urged Justice Emeka Nwite of the Federal High Court Abuja to deny the bail application of Gambaryan.

The latter Iheanacho said, has the tendency to jump bail, allegedly having plotted to flee the country too about the same time his colleague fled.

The counsel’s own words, “There was an attempt by this defendant to procure another travelling document even when he was aware that his passport was in the custody of the state. He pretended as if the said passport was stolen.”

Continued, “Because of the information we received, we ask that the defendant be kept in the EFCC custody so that he doesn’t escape. We will ensure that he is properly taken care of.”

After listening to both parties consisting of the defendant’s lawyer, Justice Nwite adjourned till May 17 for ruling.
