President Muhammadu Buhari has laid the blame of the country’s near collapse at the doors of ex-Presidents Olusegun Obasanjo, Umaru Yar’Adua and Goodluck Jonathan.
Buhari’s vitriol on his predecessors was contained in his Independence Anniversary address broadcast live.
The President exonerated his administration from the financial trouble the country is mired in, accusing past leaders from 1999-2015 in reference to Obasanjo, Yar’ Adua and Jonathan of laying waste the country’s resources.
“No government in the past did what we are doing with such scarce resources. We have managed to keep things going in spite of the disproportionate spending on security. Those in the previous Governments from 1999 – 2015 who presided over the near destruction of the country have now the impudence to attempt to criticize our efforts.
“In the circumstances, a responsible government must face realities and take tough decisions,” he said.
