Report has emerged that the federal lawmakers from the northern part, who on the floor of the House moved the adopted motion to summon President Muhammadu Buhari over insecurity on the back of massacre of 73 rice farmers in Zabamari, Borno State, in secret sought for forgiveness from the President.
The mover of the motion include: Hon. Ahmed Satomi, Hon. Mohammed Tahir Monguno, Hon. Zainab Gimba, Hon. Muktar Betara, Hon. Mallam Bukar Gana, Hon. Haruna Mshelia, Hon. Ahmadu Usman Jaha, Hon. Ibrahim Mohammed Bukar, Hon. Usman Zannah and Hon. Abdulkadir Rahis.
The invitation was trailed by controversy with Buhari promising to honour it only to renege later with statement by the Attorney General of the Federation and Justice Minister, Abubakar Malami, that it was not within the power of the House to invite the President.
But the ten lawmakers at the centre of the invitation have secretly met with the presidency to apologise for even contemplating the idea, The Nation said, quoting a highly placed leader in the House, “We also got intelligence that some of those lawmakers, who sponsored the motion because of Zabamari rice farmers went through the back door to the Presidency to apologise over their insistence that the President must appear before the National Assembly.”
