Report that former Chief of Army Staff, Lt.-Gen. Tukur Buratai, is involved in terrorism financing has drawn his reaction.

Recall that the federal government has consistently claimed that some Nigerians are funding terrorists but failed to name names.

Saharareporters recently mentioned Buratai as one of the financiers of the violent acts.

In response to the charge, the former Nigeria Ambassador to the Republic of Benin through a statement issued on his behalf by former Army spokesman, Brig.-Gen. Sani Usman, on Saturday denied it.

Buratai described the allegations as false, unfounded, mischievous, aimed at smearing him and injuring his reputation.

He said terrorism financing is at odds with his values and lifelong commitment to defending Nigeria against terrorism, urging the online platform which published the report to immediately retract the publication and tender an unreserved public apologies or face appropriate legal proceedings.

“It defies logic and conscience to suggest that the same person who led decisive actions against terrorism would in any way be associated with the very elements he spent his career confronting,” the statement said.
