The inferno, which razed the office computer unit laid to waste the card readers sparking speculation in some political quarters that the fire was masterminded by elements to rig the State governorship election scheduled for October 10, a claim INEC dismissed.
The Chairman, Information and Voter Education Committee of the electoral body, Festus Okoye, in an interview with Punchng.com, said the commission has resolved to make use of 5000 of the devices that belong to Oyo State for the forthcoming election and is in the process of re-configuring them.
“The commission requested and got over 5,000 Smart Card Readers from its Oyo Office and they will be deployed for the conduct of the election. The commission has also configured and charged 1,000 Smart Card Readers for the training of its election personnel,” Okoye told the paper.
