The Central Bank of Nigeria has ordered banks to start collecting the old N500 and N1,000 notes from the public with immediate effect.
This is according to Punchng, citing an unnamed source at the CBN.
The present report, however said there’s a limit to what the banks are allowed to collect from a customer this time around, which is a maximum of N500,000.
Going further, the report said, the apex bank maintained that the old currencies were no more legal tender.
Recall that on Thursday, the CBN Governor, Godwin Emefiele, ordered the banks to make the old N200 notes available to Nigerians.
