A Federal High Court in Abuja has okayed the creation of another association for Nigerian lawyers different from the existing Nigerian Bar Association (NBA).

This is according to The Nation citing a judgment by Justice Gladys Olotu.

The latter the report said, gave the verdict on December 15, 2023 by ordering the Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC) to register any of the three names suggested by the promoters of the new association.

Those behind the proposal had put forward: “The Nigerian Law Society,” “Nigerian Bar Society,” “Nigerian Lawyers’ Society” and “The Association of Legal Practitioners of Nigeria.”

Recall that NBA was founded in 1933 and remains the sole professional body for legal practitioners in the country.
