The Presidential Taskforce on COVID-19 has described the ravaging disease as ‘not a proper pandemic’.
The World Health Organisation, WHO, labelled the novel disease a pandemic, meaning it is an epidemic occurring worldwide.
PTF National Coordinator, Dr Sani Aliyu, took something of a different position to that of the world’s health body at the committee’s routine press briefing on Monday in Abuja.
Speaking against the backdrop of the violation of COVID-19 protocols in relation to social distancing and wearing face masks at the rallies of both the All Progressives Congress, APC, the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in Edo State ahead of the September 19 governorship election and the burial of late Senator Buruji Kashamu in Ijebu, Ogun State, Aliyu expressed concern about the breach.
He said the partakers should thanked their lucky stars that COVID-19 is ‘not a proper pandemic’ of Ebola proportion.
His word, “I must say that we are dismayed with the level of compliance, when it comes to some of these activities.
“The issue is; we know that COVID-19 does not act like a proper pandemic. If you have a proper pandemic like Ebola, as I have always said, you will have dead bodies on the streets, people bleeding to death; that sharp factor is there and we do not need to do anything further to convince people to protect themselves and to do the right thing.”
