Niger Governor

A Councillor in Katcha Local Government Area of Niger State is on the run with palliative grains meant for vulnerable households in his ward.

The councillor whose name was undisclosed, according to the Secretary to the Niger state government and Chairman of the state COVID-19 taskforce, Alhaji Ahmed Ibrahim Matane was a member of the committee.

Matane said the unlawful act has been reported to the police with a manhunt launched for the suspect.

The SSG expressed his disgust at the vile act, adding that the councillor’s greed would deprive his constituents of their share while giving a lowdown on the grain distribution across the state.

He said: “Committees have been set up in each of the 274 wards in the State, which comprises of the Councillor, Party Chairman, Ward Head, and a religious leader to monitor the distribution of the grains.”
