The Nigeria Customs Service has revealed that smugglers now establish small warehouses in border communities.

The Comptroller General of Customs, Adewale Adeniyi, made this revelation on Monday in an interview with newsmen at the Customs Training College in Ikeja.

Adeniyi said the warehouses served as transit points for onward movement across the border.

The trend, the Customs boss stated has gained a foothold in the illicit industry.

This, according to him, is a far departure from the practice of smuggling goods at the night.

“We now observe increased attempts during daylight hours, particularly between 0900 hrs and 1400 hrs, suggesting a tactical adaptation to our nighttime enforcement operations.

“The establishment of small, distributed storage facilities within border communities, serving as transit points for onwards movement across the border,” Adeniyi said.
