A businessman, identified as Enebeli Robinson, has been shot dead by suspected armed robbers who allegedly trailed him and snatched the money he made from his day’s sales in Delta State.

Robinson was reportedly killed at about 9 p.m. on September 30 at Umusadege Ogbe Community in Ndokwa West Local Government Area of the state.

Sources in the community said the businessman became suspicious after allegedly noticing strange movements around his shop.

Fearing that something was wrong, Robinson was said to have attempted to leave the area with the cash realised from his day’s business.

However, the suspected assailants reportedly went after him, opened fire and escaped with the money, leaving the businessman dead.

The incident has sparked fresh concerns over the security situation in the community, with residents worried about the activities of suspected criminals despite previous measures introduced to curb insecurity.

It was gathered that security concerns had earlier forced the imposition of a curfew across Utagba Ogbe Kingdom in a bid to check suspected criminal activities and restore calm.

The latest killing has, however, heightened fears among residents, who are calling on security agencies to step up surveillance and intensify efforts to track down the perpetrators.

Community members have urged the authorities to ensure that those behind Robinson’s killing are identified, arrested and prosecuted.

The circumstances surrounding the incident remained unclear as of press time. The identities of the suspected attackers and whether any arrests had been made were also not immediately known.

The killing adds to residents’ concerns about the safety of business owners, particularly those who handle cash from daily sales and may be vulnerable to attacks by criminals.

Residents are now demanding stronger security measures to prevent further bloodshed and ensure that traders can carry out their businesses without fear of being attacked.
