Human Rights lawyer, Femi Falana (SAN) has advised kidnap victims who paid ransom to secure their freedom to demand refund from the federal government.
Falana gave this advice in an interview he granted Punchng.com on Friday on the raging controversy surrounding the attack on the Fulani community in Igangan in Oyo State by a Yoruba activist, Sunday Igboho, over spate of crimes pervading the Southwest attributed to criminal herders.
Falana said the federal government has failed in its core responsibility of protecting lives and properties and so must be held accountable by kidnap victims who paid ransom to regain their freedom.
“To Nigerians who pay ransoms, please ask the government to refund the money. If the government does not refund the money, we must have a test case. Nigerians must challenge the government. The government has to pay instead of private people. Then, the government will know it has a duty to protect citizens,” he said.
