A doctor with a state-run hospital in Kano has been suspended for alleged negligence that led to the death of a patient.
The doctor, Shehu Abdullahi Muhammad works with Abdullahi Wase Specialists Hospital, and his suspension handed down by the Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria following allegation by one Ali Babba-Dan’agundi, father to a patient, Maijidda Aminu, that he caused the death of the latter while on admission in the hospital.
In a letter addressed to Danagubdi, the council said it has suspended Dr. Muhammad from practice, pending outcome of the investigation committee set up by the council.
The letter signed by the investigation panel secretary, Dr. E. D. Audu reads in part:
“Pursuant to Section 15 (3) c of Medical Practitioners’ Act 2004 and in fulfilment of the panel’s order flowing there from, Dr. Shehu Abdullahi Muhammad is suspended from the practice of medicine in Nigeria, pending the determination of his matter by the Medical and Dental Practitioners Disciplinary Tribunal.”
