The Divisional Police Officer for Maru Station, in Maru Local Government area of Zamfara State, Kazeem Raheem, has been killed.
Raheem was killed on Saturday alongside two others; another police officer and a vigilante.
The trio suffered death in the process of rescuing wife of a businessman in the town, Alhaji Iliyasu, the latter whose brother was previously kidnapped and set free after ransom exchanged hands.
The gunmen on Saturday came purposely for Alhaji Iliyasu, but upon his escape settled for the wife, according to report.
It added that Raheem and the victims met their deaths at the hands of marauding bandits while responding to the alarm raised over the abduction.
One Facebook user, Suleiman Ahmad Tadu, who posted about the incident and similar one on his wall wrote, “Yesternight, Maru Divisional Police Officer, SP Kazeem Raheem along with two other persons (Police Officer and a vigilante) has paid the Supreme price while trying to protect the lives of innocent citizens against the bandit terrorists.
“Similarly in the same night, 5 persons were killed in Tungar Ɗan Juma and unspecified number of people were kidnapped at Garin Kyafda in Birnin Magaji LGA.
“May Allah have mercy on the deceased and grant us peace. Amin.”
