Human rights lawyer, Mr Femi Falana (SAN) in an allusion linked immediate past Ekiti Governor, Ayodele Fayose, to the murder of deceased World Bank consultant, Dr. Ayo Daramola.
Daramola, an aspirant for the Ekiti State governorship in the 2007 election on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, during Fayose’s first time as governor was killed in cold blood in August 2006.
The deceased and Fayose were locked in a fierce battle for the PDP ticket ahead of the election before he (Daramola) was assassinated in his bedroom at his home town in Ijan-Ekiti by gunmen.
Daramola’s killing was believed to be politically motivated. Prior to his murder, he petitioned the Inspector General of Police accusing the then governor of threat to life.

Falana on Monday at the maiden memorial public lecture in honour of the late Prof. Olumuyiwa Awe at the Trenchard Hall, University of Ibadan, in a thinly veiled reference to Fayose said the ex-governor had a killer squad while in office and his hit squad murdered Daramola.
He said: “I know a state governor in the South-West who once had a killer squad headed by his Chief Security Officer, a police officer.
“One of the unarmed citizens mowed down by the illegal squad was a World Bank expert. All efforts to prosecute the suspects have been frustrated by the state government. The story is the same in a few other states in the country.”
