Doctor banned for life for cutting off patient’s kidney

The Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria, has banned Dr. Yakubu Koji of Jimeta Clinic and Maternity, Jimeta, Adamawa State for life after he was found guilty of cutting off the kidney of one Isa Hamma, and causing the patient’s death.

The retribution was handed down to Koji by a tribunal set up by the council to adjudicate on the matter and other related infractions.

According to the Chairman of the tribunal, Prof. Abba Hassan, the doctor was found guilty on 12 counts preferred against him by the prosecuting counsel.

“The respondent violated Laws 29.4d, 29.4a, 29.4g, 29.4h, 29.4i, 31, 33, 33.1, 33.0 and 43.3 of the Code of Medical Ethics in Nigeria in the 2008 edition. The name of Dr Yakubu Hassan Koji is hereby struck out of the register of the Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria,” Hassan said.
