Drama ensued on Wednesday during a plenary of the Senate following the decision of Senator Dino Melaye to sit among senators elected on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party.
The Kogi West who had been away from the Senate for about a month on account of the protracted crisis between him and the leadership of his party, All Progressive Congress, APC, leading to legal battles and alleged injury, attended the session in a cervical collar and with a walking stick.
The embattled senator caused stir when he urged Senate President Bukola Saraki to order the sergeants-at-arms to create a space for him on the side of the minority PDP, saying that he would sit near the former Senate President, David Mark, in the interim, Punch reported.
The request which sparked controversy among senators was later granted prompting Melaye to take his seat near Senator Mark who was absent at the proceedings, the paper reported.
It added that Melaye with the action may have subtly announced his defection, which has been widely speculated.
