Orebe and his victim reportedly got to know each other when Wheelers was at Tony Elumelu Foundation in 2015 where the Nigerian was his driver, Zone 2 Police Public Relations Officer, SP Dolapo Badmos made this known on Tuesday.

Badmos explained that the victim had arrived the country on August 25, 2017, on the invitation of his attacker, who drove him to his (Orebe’s) house at Adeniyi Street, Ikorodu, where an argument ensued over money during which the suspect hit the American in the head with the pestle at midnight, and fled the scene leaving his guest in a pool of blood.

Consequently, a manhunt was launched for the fleeing driver and on September 8, he was arrested in his hideout.

According to Badmos, “The suspect confessed to the AIG that he clubbed the victim’s head with a pestle three times. He said he did it because the man reneged on his promise to give him an unspecified amount of money.

“He claimed he invested so much money in his effort to get the money from the American, that he even consulted a white garment church, where he was given a charm to use on the victim but it did not work. He said he was deeply angered when the victim did not obey his instructions.

“Investigation is ongoing on the matter. The AIG has directed that no stone be left unturned in unravelling the case.”
