Ebonyi APC chair, others arrested over Police Officer’s killing

The Chairman of the All Progressives Congress, APC Ebonyi State chapter, Stanley Okoro-Emegha, has been arrested for the recent arson, and killing of two persons including a Police Inspector.

Okoro-Emegha was apprehended alongside at least twenty-five others, among them a former chairman of the Afikpo South LGA and APC Federal House of Representatives candidate for Afikpo North/South Constituency in the 2023 general election, Hon. Eni Chima with whom the former has issue.

Okoro-Emegha and Chima have been in a supremacy battle.

The rift, as per Ebonyi State Police Command though its spokesperson, SP Chris Anyanwu, caused the  mayhem that rocked Ekoli Edda Community, in the Afikpo South Local Government Area of Ebonyi State last year’s December 26.

A fight, Anyawu said during a press conference on Monday in Abakaliki, ensued between the party Chairman’s security aides and some youths loyal to Chima. It left two houses burnt while two lives were lost including that of the police inspector.

Anyanwu went on to pay compliments to Gov. David Umahi saying he allowed the police to do their job and was instrumental to the arrest of Okoro-Emegha and Chima despite being in the same APC with him, among other commendable actions.

Part of the spokesperson’s remarks, “The prompt intervention of His Excellency, Dave Nweze Umahi, as the father and Chief Security Officer of the state, went a long way to abate the hostilities.

“Without minding whose ox is gored, the governor ordered that the two political stalwarts be arrested and detained, even as the duo are key members of his political party. He further enhanced and facilitated the arrest of the perpetrators cum recovery of arms/ammunition.”
