The report that Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, is not on the side of the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party in coming Saturday’s governorship election in Edo State, Asue Ighodalo, has drawn his reaction.
The Federal Capital Territory minister, Nyesom Wike, a chieftain of the PDP in bed with the ruling All Progressives Congress and also an ally of Makinde has openly distanced himself from Ighodalo’s candidacy.
The Oyo governor’s absence at the grand finale of Ighodalo’s campaign in contrast to other governors elected on the platform of the PDP, who graced the occasion sparked rumour that he’s not for Ighodalo.
He dispelled the rumour on Wednesday at the rehabilitation of the Ladoke Akintola airport in the state where he gave reason for his absence, and called on Edo electorate to rally behind the PDP candidate.
“I was away. I already fixed the meetings in Finland and Sweden when they fixed the Edo governorship grand finale rally. I couldn’t come.
“I thought I would manage to get to Nigeria that Saturday and tongues have been wagging that I wasn’t at the rally.
“Let me declare loud and clear that Seyi Makinde is 100 per cent with our candidate Asue Ighodalo in Edo State and it is the Edo people’s decision.
“If the people of Edo want to know the difference between delicious and nutritious, you should vote for Asue Ighodalo and deliver him as your next governor. He will give you nutrition,” he said.
