Senator Shehu Sani has accused Nasir El-Rufai of hypnotising Kaduna people while he held sway as the State governor.
Sani made the claim in the context of the alleged huge debt El-Rufai made the state to incur during his time, which the incumbent, Governor Uba Sani said is hampering his administration from discharging its duties, including paying workers’ salaries.
The former Senator, an immutable adversary of the immediate past Kaduna governor, was at the centre of the opposition to the proposal of the administration of El-Rufai to get $350m foreign loan.
In an interview with Punchng, he claimed the then governor had the people of the state in his state having allegedly hypnotised them.
“Unfortunately, many of the people who are talking in the state today were complicit; they joined in attacking my person.
“Protests were organised by women and youth groups in support of the loan. Clerics and politicians were supportive of El-Rufai’s loan. Many people in Kaduna State could not stand and fight him because he had cowed them; they were afraid of their houses being demolished or their being arrested. El-Rufai neutralised the people of Kaduna, hypnotised them, and stabilised them to the point that people were afraid to confront him,” he told the publication.
