The Chairman, Medical Guild, Dr Sa’eid Ahmad, has said the ill-fated elevator that caused the death of a medical doctor, Dr Diaso Vwaere was never in good condition.
Vwaere, a fresh medical graduate who was undergoing housemanship at General Hospital, Odan, Lagos when the hospital’s faulty elevator led to her death on Tuesday.
She took the elevator from 10th floor in the course of meeting a dispatch rider to collect her food on the ground floor during which it crashed and led to her death.
The Medical Guild at a press conference o Friday said its findings revealed the elevator was installed by a quake and the lift previous history is discouraging.
Ahmad explained that during the elevator’s commissioning it malfunctioned, with the contractor attributing the situation to low power supply.
He added that under normal circumstances it ought to be subjected to maintenance every four weeks but nothing of such.
According to him, “Regular maintenance was supposed to be done every four weeks on the elevator for optimum performance.” the News Agency of Nigeria reports.
Ahmad added that the contractor, installers, and other persons involved in the installation should be made to face the law.
