Five people have been arrested and charged to court in Kano over the alleged destruction of campaign posters and billboards belonging to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf and other politicians.

The arrests came amid fresh tension surrounding the Kano Emirate dispute and a controversial public outing by Emir Aminu Ado Bayero.

Kano State Commissioner of Police, Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, disclosed the development while speaking with journalists on security measures and the enforcement of the state’s restriction on public horse-riding and processions.

According to Bakori, the suspects were picked up after police investigations into the destruction of properties during heightened tensions linked to horse-riding activities and public processions.

He said the investigation had been completed and the suspects were already facing prosecution, stressing that the police would not hesitate to act against anyone whose conduct threatened public peace.

The commissioner said reports received by the command indicated that some people accompanying Bayero during Sunday’s outing allegedly pulled down or destroyed posters and billboards bearing the images of Tinubu, Governor Yusuf and other political figures.

The development has added another political dimension to the already tense Kano Emirate dispute, with security agencies keeping a close watch on public gatherings and processions in the state.

Bakori also warned that the restriction on public horse-riding remains in force, saying anyone who violates the directive could face arrest and prosecution.

The police have continued to urge residents and political actors to avoid actions capable of escalating tension or disturbing the peace in the state.
