A Facebook user, Akanji Kofoworola, who is facing prosecution bordering on spreading alleged fake news about actress Lizzy Anjorin has been granted bail.
Kofoworola was on Wednesday arraigned before a Lagos Chief Magistrate’s Court during which she pleaded not guilty to the three count-charge of conspiracy, publishing of fake news and defamation preferred against her.
Magistrate Wahab Balogun heard from the prosecutor, ASP Salihu Kadiri that the 37-year-old used her Facebook account to publish, distribute and project articles and obscene content injurious to the reputation of the nollywood actress who doubles as a businesswoman.
Kadiri explained that the defendant and other bloggers currently at large committed the offences in Lagos, since 2023, adding that their actions contravened sections 39, 57 and 150 of the Criminal Laws of Lagos State 2015, and punishable under the same laws.
The session ended with the Magistrate granting the defendant bail.
The bail in the sum of N100, 000 with two sureties in like sum and some other conditions followed an oral application for it by her lawyer.
Magistrate Balogun went on to announce August 21 as the trial date.
