Human rights lawyer, Mr. Femi Falana (SAN), has raised the alarm about an alleged plot to ban international news networks like CNN, BBC and Al Jazeera by the federal government.
Falana’s revelation came after the government ban twitter for deleting President Muhammadu Buhari’s tweet bordering on civil war for violating its policy.
The Human Rights lawyer said the ban of the micro-blogging platform was just a tip of the iceberg adding that the likes of CNN and local media critical of the government would soon suffer similar fate.
He stated this in an interview with Punchng.com where he flayed the government’s action, saying, “The decision of the NBC to impose fines on media houses based on an illegally amended code of the Broadcasting Code is a rehearsal of the imminent proscription of local media organisations that publish anything considered defamatory or seditious by the government.
“With what has happened to Twitter, other media houses like CNN, BBC and Al Jazeera will also be suspended.”
