Minister of Works and Housing, Babatunde Fashola is a victim of fraudsters as he was defrauded of N3,106,216, the report has emerged.
It came to light after one of two perpetrators of the scam; one Malik Wakili was arraigned by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, on Monday with his conspirator, Abdullahi Umar, at large.
The fraud, was allegedly perpetrated in March this year.
The court heard from EFCC that the pair posed as Fashola to appropriate the sum of N3,106,216, value of the Air-miles Skywards Account Number EK248739282 of the former Lagos governor with the Emirate Airlines.
The action, the anti-graft prosecutor said was contrary to sections 15(2)(a) and 27(1)(b) of the Money Laundering (Prohibition) Act and was liable to be punished under sections 15(3) and 22(3)(a) of the same Act.
However, the defendant denied the charge while Justice C.J. Aneke adjourned the case to December 17 to rule on the bail application.
