The rape and manslaughter trial of popular content creator, Ifeanyi Ogbonna, popularly known as Odogwu Asaba, took a dramatic turn on Wednesday as five witnesses testified against him, with the prosecution also presenting video evidence.

The case, being heard at the Delta State High Court in Asaba, concerns the alleged rape of 20-year-old Favour Agbro and the circumstances surrounding her subsequent death.

Those who testified included the deceased’s twin sister, brother and father, alongside the doctor who conducted her post-mortem examination and an investigating police officer.

The prosecution’s presentation of witnesses and video evidence marked a significant step in the trial, as the state began laying out its case against the embattled content creator.

However, proceedings were stalled after defence counsel requested more time to examine the statements of the prosecution witnesses and additional materials served on the defence.

The prosecution, while maintaining that it was ready to proceed, acknowledged the need to give the defence adequate time to study the evidence.

The prosecution team was led by the Solicitor-General and Permanent Secretary of the Delta State Ministry of Justice, Omamuzo Erebe, SAN, alongside the Director of Public Prosecutions, Tejiri Anuhwin, and other state lawyers.

Ogbonna had pleaded not guilty to the charges on October 21, 2026, when he was arraigned before Justice Michael Nduka Obi.

The charges stem from allegations relating to Agbro’s death in June 2026. The young woman reportedly died after ingesting a toxic substance following the alleged sexual assault.

Following his arrest and arraignment, the court ordered that Ogbonna be remanded at the Ogwashi-Uku Maximum Correctional Centre.

The matter was adjourned until November 19, 2026, for continuation of the trial, with the prosecution expected to present further witnesses and evidence.
