The death of boxer Chukwuemeka Igboanugo in the ring at the ongoing National Sports Festival in Asaba, Delta State on Tuesday, has been put at the doorstep of medical personnel at the venue.

Igboanugo, a representative of Imo State died from multiple punches in the chin in the hands of Anambra’s Gaby Amagor in their 86kg category bout.

Report said, the referee had stopped the fight on sensing Igboanugo was in danger leading to medics to take charge of him, but they were accused of dropping the ball by Borno State coach Endurance Aberegidi.

In an interview with Punchng, Aberegidi said,  “They (medics) were looking for the coach (Imo boxing coach) for over 20 minutes as the boy was not responding to treatment. I don’t know why they wasted so much time to treat the boy. They should have focused on treating him. They said the boy didn’t allow anyone to treat him and after a short while, they came back and said he had given up the ghost.”
