The Federal Government has cancelled all admissions into the National Certificate in Education (NCE) and degree programmes of the National Teachers’ Institute (NTI), Kaduna, for the 2026 academic session over alleged regulatory violations.

The Ministry of Education also ordered the institute to end all university affiliations and degree-awarding arrangements, warning prospective students and parents against applying for the affected programmes.

The directive was contained in a statement dated November 7, 2026, signed by the ministry’s Director of Press and Public Relations, Boriowo Folasade.

According to the ministry, NTI is not authorised to award NCE and university degrees, adding that no further admissions would be allowed into the affected programmes through full-time, part-time or Distance Learning Studies (DLS).

It warned applicants against accepting admission offers or making payments for the programmes, stressing that such arrangements violated the Ministerial Operational Guidelines issued on September 12, 2025.

The ministry further explained that NCE admissions must comply with the requirements of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) and accreditation standards set by the National Commission for Colleges of Education (NCCE).

The National Universities Commission (NUC) was also directed to notify affected universities and ensure the immediate discontinuation of their degree-awarding arrangements with NTI.

However, the government said students already enrolled in the institute’s programmes would not be abandoned.

It directed the NCCE to conduct comprehensive accreditation of existing NCE II-IV Distance Learning programmes and study centres across the six geopolitical zones.

Students found eligible would be allowed to complete their programmes, subject to accreditation results and other regulatory requirements.

The ministry maintained that NTI’s statutory responsibility remained teacher training, retraining, in-service development and continuous professional development.

It urged the institute to concentrate on building teachers’ professional skills, including its three-to-six-month Special Abridged Programme for serving teachers with non-Education degrees seeking professional qualifications for registration with the Teachers Registration Council of Nigeria (TRCN).
