The federal government says it has become necessary for the security agencies to monitor the activities of prominent Nigerians on social media.
Minister of Defence, Manir Dan-Ali, disclosed this on Thursday to State House correspondents after the quarterly meeting of the National Security Council presided over by President Muhammadu Buhari.
Dan-Ali said the motive behind this was to clampdown on hate speech particularly by prominent Nigerians in a statement credited to him.
The statement reads, “The Honourable Minister expressed the need by the relevant security agencies to as a matter of urgency tackle the propagation of hate speeches especially through the social media particularly by some notable Nigerians.”
