Report of alleged secret plot by the federal government to arrest Yoruba nation agitator, Professor Banji Akintoye has emerged.
Akintoye is leader of the umbrella body of the Yoruba self-determination group, Ilana Omo Oodua.
The octogenarian, according to Punchng citing an unnamed source was a candidate for arrest but long intercepted the plot three months before his colleague in the struggle for Yoruba secession from Nigeria, Sunday Igboho was apprehended in Benin Republic.
Upon the interception, the paper quoting the source said the erudite Professor relocated to the French-speaking country, “It is true that the Federal Government wants to arrest him (Akintoye), they want to intimidate him and detain him.
“There were plans to pick him up and intimidate him and put him behind bars in an attempt to kill the struggle but the plot was uncovered and he left. He didn’t step out of Nigeria for more than five years before he left some three months back when the plot to arrest him was uncovered.”
