The Federal Government has reduced the fraud charges it filed against the immediate-past Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, Godwin Emefiele.
Hitherto the charges bordering on alleged procurement fraud filed in August were 20 counts.
It was based on alleged N6.5bn procurement fraud with the disgraced former bank chief charged alongside a female CBN employee, Sa’adatu Yaro, and her company, April 1616 Investment.
But in the latest twist, the charges have been amended from 20 counts to six counts but maintained the procurement fraud allegation.
In the sheet marked CR/577/2023, the quantum of the alleged procurement fraud was equally pegged down from N6.9bn to N1.2bn while Emefiele is the only defendant in the new charge.
