The Federal Government has formally set 16 years as the minimum age for admission into Nigeria’s tertiary institutions.
The development was announced made by the Minister of Education, Dr. Tunji Alausa at the opening session of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) Policy Meeting held on Tuesday in Abuja.
Dr. Alausa said that any admission conducted outside the Central Admission Processing System (CAPS) would be considered illegal, while individuals and institutions involved would be prosecuted.
He emphasised that the age requirement is mandatory and non-negotiable, saying that heads of institutions found complicit in admission fraud will face strict legal consequences.
